Holy shit. That fight had everything I thought it would. Izzy was much more well rounded but Alex just had the power and the style to get him just once and that’s all he needed. I can’t believe it actually played out that way.

 

Also, was Rogan asking if that was the fewest fights before getting a UFC title? I think Brock still has him beat lol

 

I am hollering. Unreal that we watched Usman, Teixeira and Adesanya lose PPV worthy championship fights they were winning until they didn’t, all in the same year. Great fight card.

 

At least with Usman and Izzy, it just shows how god damn hard it is to have a long title rein. People like to prematurely declare someone the GOAT (like Conor and Khabib), but look what happens when you keep defending your title. People have long said both MW and WW were “cleared out”, but then both guys still ended up getting knocked out. Just makes you have that much more respect for the guys/girls who have like double-digit title defenses.

 

Wonder if they do the rematch in Perth

 

I do wonder if this year is up there for most championship title changes in one.

Can’t believe ppl think it was an early stoppage on Izzy. Dude was bobble heading and Goddard pulled back from stopping it twice before he actually did. He was done. No need to see him flatline.

 

This isn’t that far off honestly lol. I can’t think of another situation like this in the UFC. He has Izzy’s number and Izzy has literally everyone else’s number….but I wouldn’t doubt if Alex couldn’t defend his belt a single time. That’s not even considering the weirdness of the dude only being 7-1 in MMA.

The only even remotely close example I can think of is Weidman beating Silva, but even that’s not perfect. Weidman was like 10-0 and beat the GOAT and then didn’t fair so great against really anyone else (though this was basically a whole new generation of fighters that Silva didn’t face so it doesn’t really work).

Very interesting position assuming he beats Izzy a 4th time in a rematch. And then there’s the idea of Alex moving up at some point. He could fight at 205 easily. He weighs almost 230 out of camp while still looking pretty shredded.
