Welp that settles it. I didn’t even listen to this album and this cements that I won’t willingly listen to their stuff again. Just absolute buffoonery and gross handling of this whole situation.

 

Even while thinking the original phrasing of Tillian "stepping away" seemed bad, I wasn't prepared for him to come back in the same fuckin year. Jesus christ what pieces of shit, god damn.

 

I know I shouldn’t be surprised, but I’m still so disgusted at how completely they’re brushing everything aside. This band is dead to me.

I saw a tweet just now from a girl saying Tilian told her months ago he was coming back. I muted her because I’ve been muting every account I see tweet about DGD today though so I don’t have the link. Really fucking gross.

It’s just baffling, all that stuff on Reddit and him saying things were misinterpreted in the moment, then to go on and say it never happened. Most of their fans would’ve taken a, “I understand what I did wasn’t right, and I’m taking steps to understand the power dynamics I hold in romantic relationships, and won’t engage in sexual conduct with fans anymore”. I’m not one of them, FYI. Just seems like such an unnecessary hill to die on. Band is forever tainted.

I gave them shit on the Twitter post and was very happy to see A LOT of people were too.

 

I didn’t spend too long on the subreddit because well, it’s Reddit, but most of the comments I saw there were pretty negative too which I was surprised by.

 

why would Rise give a shit - they've been putting out records by bands with pieces of shit in them for decades

 

and that's not just an indictment on Rise - other big indie labels in our scene like Hopeless Epitaph Pure Noise etc continue to do the same

hell Vagrant just re-pressed a ton of Saves The Day records

You could consider renaming it to something other than Swancore to remove any association with Will Swan and DGD

Idk, I haven’t been following this since the initial posts by the victims. But there seems to be a lot of evidence in the thread to back up his claims, unless he’s conveniently leaving out details to paint the narrative in a certain way.

Edit: it’s clear he’s leaving out a lot of the details.

That post is very weird. The vast majority of it is focusing on how shitty Mikaela is, which I think most people kind of figured out already. But he barely touches on Spooky, which is the case that people largely believe and want answers for. He provides no real detail and tries to back peddle on his previous admission of guilt. I also don't get why they (the whole band/label) think they can get away with the narrative that all this happened because Tilian was drinking too much. If no one ever came out with allegations, there is no chance he would have ever stepped down or gone to rehab or whatever. This all happened because he SA'd at least one person, and reframing it as "oh he had a drinking problem but he's better now" is stupid as shit.
