UK citizens rebelling or protesting their government...in this reality? I wouldn't disagree with the ones who do, but even without the Ukraine war I don't see mass rebellions or protests happening.

That's why I was confused as to what he meant. Seems like he just pulled "cost of living rebellion" out of thin air.

 

No way Putin ever agrees to a deal that doesn't end up with them keeping at least Crimea. I don't think they're at the point where they'd agree to a deal that doesn't include a guarantee from Ukraine that they never join NATO/EU, they might get there in the future if things get more desperate but not right now.

 

I agree with you about Crimea, but I think Russia lost any chance whatsoever that Ukraine doesn't join both the EU and NATO on February 24th 2022, if that is indeed what they want to do.

If Ukraine wants a guarantee that Russia will never invade then they should also guarantee that they won't join NATO/EU. That's the only way I see any guarantee happening and if both parties agree then I think it's possible.

 

The Tories have been doing terribly in the polls recently, and when faced with movements like Enough Is Enough, Don't Pay and a huge strike wave, it's not surprising they're trying to push a counter narrative. The poll tax riots in 1990 got rid of Thatcher, and it's not hard to see something similar happening again when people are going to be freezing and starving to death this winter.

 

I could for sure see that narrative twisted that the conflict is driving high energy bills and that people will either buy into it or be pissed off.

Not sure if I'm reading the situation right, but it feels like we're kind of reaching the point where the lines aren't going to change much for a while. Russia seems to really be focusing on preparing fortifying the opposite bank of the Dnipro while the Donbas front hasn't really moved at all for several weeks now. Could be a good time for negotiations (although yes I see the Rob Lee tweet above)

At the very least, it shows yet again that Russia is willing to lose to some extent without dramatically escalating with, say, a nuke. Which is pretty fortunate for all of us

Now that all of Kherson is liberated from the invaders, the top of Crimea is now very much in play; I'm sure very soon HIMARS rockets will start raining down on the isthmus that connects Crimea to the main body of Ukraine, destroying all the logistics points that connect the two. Russians in Crimea will probably soon start heading for the Kerch bridge en masse to leave
