Dem’s have lost such significant ground with the latino population there. Tend to be from catholic backgrounds, which just also lean conservative. So abortion rights and capitalism just ring a bit truer there.

 

I think a lot of it is just willful ignorance. It's not a problem RIGHT NOW so they don't see it as an issue.

 

I feel like right after he says the 'all' in "I should not be blamed at all" you can see on his face that he knows this is a ridiculous thing to say. This is a man who just constantly spews absolutely asinine shit out of his mouth on a constant basis and you don't ever see any indication on his face like this.

It is probably just something trivial and petty like an aide told him "no, you can't say that" so he said it and smirked to himself or something dumb, but I still found this to be a remarkable little moment.

 

The snowbirds are a big part of it but recently, there’s been a big flux of conservatives moving down there too

Yep people eat it up. I saw several facebook posts from conservative 'acquaintances' that said things along the like of 'Desantis summing things up nicely!!'

People are nutty haha. Desantis really said that 'Florida was a refuge of sanity and a citadel of freedom for not only the US, but the entire world'.

 

Would love this to finish up quicker.

That’s exactly what I don’t understand about the Republican party’s view of the next election cycle as of this morning. They’re all hemming and hawing this morning about how they need to switch gears and shift away from Trumpism because the people have clearly responded last night. And yet…they keep repeating that DeSantis is now the future of the party. And you listen to his victory speech and it’s…just more Trumpism. It’s all the same rhetoric that the people pushed back against last night. How the hell is that switching gears?

 

trump calling him ron de-sanctimonious is very funny. there's a divide in the party between trump people and desantis people currently. not sure how that's gonna play out.

I think Desantis comes out ahead in an actual feud with Trump, but Trump could really handicap him, and he has a third party run as a threat that would bring them both down. That's the ideal scenario for the country.
