Okay, so have another date tonight, new girl. Last girl I went out with was very nice but is just in a weird spot in life so I politely stepped back.

This girl tonight I just matched with on tuesday and we have been talking non-stop. Have a really good feeling about tonight, gonna go to a tavern up by her that's well known for it's bar pies.

God the dating scene is so much better up here than Florida lol.

How have I never heard it referred to as "bar pie" before. Had to Google like an idiot cause I thought that was some sort of deep fried dessert pie. Hope it goes well!

I also don’t know anyone who calls a pizza a pie unless they’re doing it ironically or as some sort of sick joke :crylaugh:

I’ve never heard someone actually say “pizza pie” (only “pizza” like a sane person) so I guess if someone were to say “pizza pie” and then “bar pie” I… I guess that would make sense but there’s certainly no reason to do that lol

Can confirm the general Philly-NY corridor will refer to them as "pies", not all the time but it does happen

I realize this is a super cliche complaint but I really need advice on how to meet/date people outside of dating apps, because I really have no idea. With my friend groups we mostly just hang to ourselves at someone’s place. With my job I functionally work alone. I’m not even ever in a context in which I really meet new people in first place, let alone one to ask someone out lol

I’ve never just approached strangers at random and asked them out, but it’s been feeling increasingly tempting to do so. As useful as dating apps are at signaling “hey we’re at least some degree of interested in each other,” it’s just really hard to convey your personality to someone over text like that and I find that particularly frustrating

I moved to a new city and joined a bowling league which I’ve never done before, cause a coworker invited me…I think the main thing is to just start saying yes to stuff a little outside of your comfort zone and then with that, comes new people to meet and talk to

totally agree about the dating app thing - how are we supposed to show our quick and witty selves with a phone in the way :crylaugh: I also read a lot of body language..the apps take all the intricacies out

If you are in your 30s and done with college like me this is the million dollar question. The only thing that’s kind of been rewarding for me outside of dating apps and bars is volunteering. I would never recommend volunteering just to meet dates, but it is a place to meet people sometimes.

Late 20s and all my friends are in the 30s and married, so basically yes lol

I never even go to the type of bars where you’d approach someone and offer to buy them a drink or anything, always more sit-down places with friends, so there have definitely been times where I’ve seen someone and thought about approaching them, but given the context of both me being with people and them being with people, it feels really inappropriate and uncomfortable to even try to turn that into more of a 1-on-1 thing lol

I guess I somehow need a find a way to make more job more manageable, because it eats up so much time and energy that I never have any for much recreational/volunteer things like that in the first place

I was trying to describe myself to someone

I found Meetup to be super useful when I moved city 6 years ago. The purely dating groups tend to be absolutely cringe worthy, but if you can go general social ones or hobby focussed ones, it's a good way to meet people and that can open avenues up to new friend groups and maybe dates. It's pretty indirect, but it's a good way to open your social group up.

Admittedly, really depends where you live and whether there are good groups in the area. I'm not really sure what other sites offer the same thing as Meetup. Myself and a friend run a couple and it's really expensive for how crappy the site is, but we can't think of anything which offers what it does with the reach it has.
