I’ll say this - I would probably never listen to Pepper, White, or Abbey Road consistently without those updated mixes. I need it to sound modern - part of the reason Revolver is hard to listen to now. I love Giles’ work.

 

Real quick, back to the mixing conversation that I missed out on before…

Stereo mixes from the 60s that were done when it was a new thing bug the hell out of me! Like… they were just like “look! you can pan anything you want to either side! let’s put the drums in in the left speaker and put the main vocal in just the right speaker, and everything else can be whatever. It doesn’t matter! It’s just fun!”

also, only tangentially related, but Paul's daughter that isn't mega-famous is directing a doc for Disney+ that's on Abbey Road Studios with Paul, Roger Waters, and others as talking heads that's coming out this fall. got good buzz out of telluride.

I have a friend who claims to have never heard Taxman before. He's someone who like knows classic rock songs and shit, he's not a hermit. I just found that extremely hard to believe.

my favorite Beatles album, very excited

 

my most recent run through of Beatles albums (around the time Get Back came out) had me coming out really loving Revolver, probably to the point it’s my #1 (tho it’s a bit of a tossup with Abbey Road). I also came out really … NOT liking most of Sgt Peppers lol.

 

agreed fully, though i think i pretty firmly have AR over Revolver

 

Ah this is such an improvement!

 

Listening to the 2022 mix now and it really is impressive. The Beatles remasters have been hands down the best use of spatial audio

 

i'll always have a soft spot for the mono mixes but yeah this is incredible.

Do you mean the new mixes specifically? Because all the bonus content has been phenomenal. I don't even know if I've listened to the new mixes for the albums but I've listened to the bonus stuff so much
