And yeah I believe this too. I agree that anyone doing the stuff .K is doing shouldn't have the privilege of posting on here anymore. I've been told that reporting posts is extremely underutilized though by mods on here before, and think consistent use could end up going a long way. But yeah it does feel weird that it's not exactly a secret this has been going on for as long as it has (including interactions they've had with mods).

That's my two cents, figured might as well add that since I commented on the other thing.

The thing is the mods see K’s posts. They’ve seen his posts for years. They’ve interacted with the user plenty of times. This isn’t a case of someone doing a bunch of shit and it just not going noticed where reporting would make the mods aware.

I agree, and in general I agree with your overarching point. Chorus was made partly to own the product again but also partly to create a different environment and while it's a lot better in many ways there's definitely room to do better and .K isn't the only user being a part of those negatives but they certainly are one. I hope me saying "report that" is treated more as a call to arms than it is a deflection because I don't mean to deflect from that, just to encourage people to do these things more often.

I was also speaking from experience from a time I reached out to a mod about a user asking why they weren't banned yet

To play devil's advocate as a person who pushes back against abuse allegations being ignored in various threads on the site: do we ban every poster that ignores allegations and continues to post about about a band as if nothing happened?

Stop making sense, people won't like it.

I feel very similar about my panic disorder. Learning how to adapt to the world around me was key, I could never make the world adapt to me.

If it's not a feature to block certain users per user, i.e not seeing their posts. It should be.

I’m for banning that dweeb but also I never use the block feature simply for that reason. I like to keep tabs on these losers who spout off and dunk on them. It’s the small victories

But also yeah k should be banned

thats not entirely whats happening here though, this is a user with a demonstrated and long history of damaging, misogynistic, sexist, and downright willfully ignorant posting behavior, that no longer has any business on this forum.

  11. There are warnings and point systems in place that the mods use depending on what was said, hence why they may have been banned at one point but are now back. The more posts that are reported for that kind of behavior, the easier it will be for one of us to identify the problem and assign points or a temporary or permanent ban.

To @OhTheWater's point, it has been brought up many times that it is borderline impossible to completely ban discussion of a problematic artist because we are not a monolith and identifying which artists are problematic to which extent becomes an entirely new problem. So while I think it's in extremely poor taste to post about new music from a rapist, I do think in this case, disruption/pushback against the user is the best action to take from a user standpoint.

From a moderator's standpoint, reported posts are reviewed and actions are taken, usually not publicly. But those reports really do help us keep tabs on everything going on around the site. For example, I'm not sure if it was reported, but I did not see the Win Butler post. I am at work and preparing for my wedding after work, so I can't dive in right this second, but now that it's on my radar, I can take a closer look as soon as I have the time to do so if another mod doesn't step in by then.

I think there is definitely a discussion to be had about people who ignore allegations in threads and what to do about them, and that has been discussed many times, but this is a case where seemingly no pushback or consequences are changing the user in questions behavior. I’m not sure what else more can be done besides a permanent ban.

I think shitty artists who do shitty things should be called out as often as folks like.

I also feel like shitty artists who do shitty things are still going to have fans who stand up for them no matter what.

Control what you can control, and then move on with your life. If someone keeps saying stupid shit, then keep talking over them and telling them they're saying stupid shit.

I get trying to permanently "silence"/de-platform someone like Trump or Kanye, but if we're talking about an annoying user on an internet forum, that seems a bit much IMO.

Thinking you can or should be able to change a stranger's behavior over the internet is downright goofy.

  14. I don't know if preventing the separation of art from artist was in fact a goal of the creation of this site, and I'm not sure the idea that it should be really reflects the consensus drawn from the hundreds of discussions of that topic on this site and the previous one.

I am made more uncomfortable with discussions about the draconian banning of a poster (whose posts I vehemently disagree with) than I am made uncomfortable when I read posts I vehemently disagree with

I was a mod of a forum once. My last actions were to ban a white supremist and then close off the forum to the outside world because no one ever joined anymore but spambots. It was a sad time.

Then the forum collapsed. But now it lives again on Discord, so I guess it all works out in the end.
