Four Year Strong have re-recorded and re-released Enemy of the World.

We decided to re record EOTW first and foremost to be as cool as Taylor Swift, but secondly because we wanted to be able to repress the vinyl and offer it to fans that haven’t been able to get it since the record came out." says Alan Day. He continues "It was really interesting to revisit all of the songs down to every detail, getting to kind of relive it in a way. We recorded the drums with Will Putney (who worked on the original EOTW as a engineer), did the rest by ourselves at Dans house, and then had Will work his magic on it and mix and master it. We had just worked with Will for the first time since 2010 on our new album Brain Pain, and figured it would be perfect to work with Will as he knows FYS old and new more than anyone. So give it a listen, come out to the tour, and party like it’s 2010 again.

With peace and love to these guys, Enemy of the World (Taylor’s Version) just doesn’t sound anywhere close to as good as the original.

  3. Why is re-recording it a necessary factor for repressing the vinyl? Is their previous record just sitting on the rights?

Ah I think this sounds way heavier than the original. I like it!

Universal/MoTown likely still owns the rights to the original production and has zero incentive to spend the money on a pressing of a 12 year old album that wouldn't be fully marketed by the band itself. By rerecording the songs, they now have a new master and can reproduce it as they like.

Personally, I'm all for a band making money off of a seminal album they released x years ago but now with a new spin - and get a greater return on it too. I guess I think of these project like a kind of like a live album.

The re-recording process sounds interesting in theory and miserable in practice if you're going for something as close as possible

I still think the original holds up and is better than this, but it’s worth it for the vinyl and finally getting “Listen! Do You Smell Something” on Spotify.

I would have preferred they re-record RODT because it sounds the furthest from their current sound.

pretty sure i saw a couple new pressings of the OG show up during this roll out of the rerecording.

Yeah Hassle Records who handled the release of the original in the UK/Europe were going to re-press it without the bands knowledge

If you have to ask, you can't afford it

It's hard to retrain the ear for something I've listened to constantly over the last decade. Reeeeally wish they'd do RODT because it just sounds so weak and thin compared to everything else. I rarely go back to it

How are they going to do the keys on this record? Aren't they a 4-piece these days? (And have been for a while)?

    Composer, but never composed.

they've just shuffled things around so a lot of their keyboard parts are played on guitar

    Is this Josh Lyford erasure?

80% of the history of this band has been Josh Lyford erasure

(not commenting on whether it was a good thing or a bad thing, it's just a factually true statement lol)

    "The only truth is music."

A lot of negativity in this thread, it sounds great and heavier and the guitars sound much better and you can hear the subtleties Alan and Dan play. Taylor Swift had to do the same thing with some of her albums so lay off. This album rips harder I think k. Also the 10 year repressing of RODT def worked out some of the sound mixing for sure.

I actually prefer when re-recordings stay close to the original, i get so used to the originals that when i hear a re-recording that differs it just doesn't sound... right

or backtracked, that's how they did some of the parts on the RODT 10 yr annv tour, as well as guitar as cosmic kid said.
