"The Archer" still feels unfinished to me. I always want it to go to a higher peak, and it just ends abruptly instead. Still like that song a lot, but it's never been one of my favorites for that reason.

I’ve never been able to pinpoint exactly what I want at the end there. A big guitar solo? Some wordless wailing, a la “With or Without You”? Another verse? I just always want a little more.

haven’t listened to the podcast so sorry if any of this is repetitive but my issue has always been less with her wordiness (I tend to like full-sentence-to-run-on lyrics a la Geoff Rickly) and more so with them just not flowing well to my ears, e.g. rhymes that don’t actually rhyme well, awkward and long chorus melodies. And given how long and repetitive some of the songs are, I think those things are amplified.

Knowing we had a small part in helping her get over 1 million more than that racist, piece of garbage (Morgan Wallen) is such a great feeling

They touch on that a little bit, as in "I like these lyrics when I read them, but they fit awkwardly into some of these songs."

She's honestly one of my favorite lyricists and I'll take her wordiness any day over extremely repetitive, lyrically thin versions of this kind of pop music. I actually think the off-kilter wordiness (you could call it awkwardness) of some of these songs is the album's biggest charm, and what makes it unique. But I can understand the criticisms.

I wish she'd done this a year ago so that we didn't have to deal with Morgan Wallen forever having an album sales crown for a year. Sadly, his album continues to do huge numbers and is the second best "selling" album of 2022 right now, ahead of even Harry Styles.

“Karma is my boyfriend” sounds oddly identical to a line my now-wife used to say when introducing me to her friends and family. Taylor swapped the first word but pretty much left the rest exactly the same as the original line.

I honestly think they shouldn't be allowed to count it as one album, because it's just this big, shapeless 30-song blob. But that ship has fully sailed in the streaming era.

That is infuriating. (I know I’m just repeating myself after you responded with 2 informative posts, but his popularity just…infuriates me)

I can genuinely say that his popularity (and the way his fans rallied around him after what he did) caused me to turn away from country music almost entirely.

100%! Aside from Jason Isbell, Chris Stapleton, Brandy Clark and Kacey Musgraves, I can’t stomach it

I saw a great tweet, on instagram, a few days ago... so apologies that I am not crediting whoever wrote it, but it was basically like....

swifties: Karma was a 2016 unreleased album from Taylor Swift that she shelved after the Kim and Kanye drama led her to record and release reputation, Karma has never seen the light of day
    Taylr: Karma is a cat.

I was really invested in the genre for a long time, and knew it very deeply. My list of artists I can stomach is still a lot longer than yours, but it's a fraction of what it was 5-6 years ago.

I had only started giving the genre a chance back in ‘14-15, but once the last president got into office, I realized the majority of those artists and their fans, likely voted for him, I just couldn’t do it.

Happiness is the one for me on Evermore. Child of divorce over here crying through that song as Taylor describes my parents.

“All you want from me now
Is the green light of forgiveness

You haven’t met the new me yet
And I think she’ll give you that.”

So far a handful of songs rly stand out to me: karma, could've would've should've (or whatever order it is), mastermind, and anti hero. But I can't stop listening to crj so I haven't rly gotten to dive into this and process it. Downside to two faves releasing albums on the same day!!

where would i be if i was my brain Prestigious

Reputation is essentially the same except for a few songs. The general vibe was supposed to be more positive until drama ensued.

I think she was finishing up stuff that ended up on Lover that was ditched for the “diss” tracks.
