Billie Eilish was at the show last night! I love how into it she is. There’s a few more clips on her story too!

I’m 30 in 2 months so while I am far from ancient I hardly feel like a model of youth haha. crazy to think that I must have gotten into them at 11/12 tho, fairly certain I got 3 Cheers within the first few months of release.

Super intrigued about "Sister to Sleep". Lost songs fascinate me. Crazy I have never heard of that one until this morning. I loved hearing that they had only played it once. And then they chose to play it as the SECOND song of the set. Bands wild. Wish I would have caught them in ATL this time around - would have been my first time.

I was very stoned and very bored on the commute home yesterday so I spun Black Parade for its anniversary and then proceeded to write a track by track review of the album for my Phish Slack that features Phish friends from all over the country. Here are my #takes:

    — — — —

The End: Sets the shit out of the tone for this dramatic change in style. Gothic opera concept epic, hell yeah, let’s go. “When I grow up, I want to be nothing at all” is one of my favorite Gerard deliveries.

Dead!: Both solos—opener and ender—whip soooo much ass. Could be the most infectious song on the entire album.

This Is How I Disappear: Absolute banger. Drum fills at the beginning tell you this is going to be a marriage of the old (Bullets/Three Cheers) and the ambitious shit they’re now doing.

The Sharpest Lives: Amazing song, gets overshadowed by just how good all the other faster songs are on here.

Welcome to the Black Parade: What can you even say about this one? One of the defining songs of the genre and its possibilities. This god damn chorus, man. You just instinctively know to belt it at full volume with your entire heart. The extra mustard on that final chorus after the bridge is just a victory lap.

I Don’t Love You: Like Teenagers, it can feel like this one doesn’t exactly fit with the rest, but as a heartbreak ballad with an ironically upbeat feel, it’s a fun wrinkle to the proceedings.

House of Wolves: Maybe the song that has grown on me the most since 2006—because they really didn’t have to go this hard. The instruments dropping out for Gerard and then coming back in with those blitzing, chunky riffs is enough to give you whiplash. Add in a Ray Toro wig-out solo to close it and this one’s a career highlight.

Cancer: An interesting choice to follow up Wolves, but the sincerity and relatability of this one makes it one of their most stirring songs.

Mama: Ah, the Acceptance stage of things (“It’s really quite pleasant / Except for the smell”). The goblin backing vocals in the second verse border dangerously close to too campy but holy moly the way they build the sound and fury in that bridge. By the time “so raise your glass high for tomorrow we die” you already have both arms up.

Sleep: Has never really totally hit for me, but the 90s alternative influences are strong in this one. Those soaring chords and vocals of the “sleeeeeeeeepppppppp” do hit though.

Teenagers: I…don’t like this song. On its own it’s fine but it just doesn’t fit with the sequencing and flow of this album at all to me. Would be my least favorite of this record.

Disenchanted: This has a teen movie closing credits vibe to it, doesn’t it? No further comment, not my favorite.

Famous Last Words: All-time epic album closer. The gang vocal chorus, the debate of love and legacy, the power to move on despite tragedy and mistakes (“awake and unafraid”)…anthemic defiance.

Mama has like...theater kid energy but I love it. Sleep was probably my least favorite track in high school and now its a top 5 track on the album for me.

Went from my least favourite in 2006 to maybe my favourite on there today. That and Mama back to back is the peak of the record for me.

It’s always shocking to me to see how many people aren’t crazy about Sleep. There’s nothing really unusual/weird/clunky/whatever about it, it’s just a massive classic MCR song. Glad to see people come around on it regardless!
