Yeah any time it seems like it's going to be straightforward or you know where it's going on this album there's always some kind of interesting little production touch. Plus the well-considered intros and outros. It's what turns a collection of hopeful-singles into an album.

The song stretch from "Be Cool" to "I've Got A Friend" is easily my favorite right now. Still not loving "Horses".

"Symphony" is also just a massive accomplishment on the production side. Yeah this album is a grower.

Pausing the interview so they could rock out to The Walkmen was amazing lol

    I do not exist.

The highs on this album hit more than the debut. Love it.

  8. I definitely prefer this to her debut. Be Cool has single potential.

I don’t really mean this as a criticism, but she’s playing a lot of the same venues she played in 2019. I wonder if had she been more active during the pandemic and actually done promo for this album she could have moved up to the next tier of venues. Maybe she’s content where she is, but I still feel like she had the chance to take her success to the next level and just…did not for whatever reason.

That all being said, I’ll still probably go to the show. She was great when I saw her at the Aragon in 2019!

Maybe I just don’t know anything about how this should work, but $70 per ticket before fees seems pretty steep?

She isn't at the Haim /Phoebe level and that's okay, would not mind being at her level haha

Yeah if she’s happy/content that’s all that matters for sure.

Yeah for NYC she's returning to Radio City, a 6k venue. I honestly dont even think she can fill that up this time around. New album just came and went with no hits and seemingly no promotion.

I think that’s around what they cost for the last tour, at least at my date in Chicago. The thing is, she is way less in demand now so it feels…a bit more strange to be charging that price. I don’t know what costs are going into this tour so maybe the money will justify the production and cost to make the tour happen, but still.

I said I would go without seeing the ticket price, so now I may have to reconsider haha.

Yeah, she’s playing Roadrunner in Boston, which is a new venue that fits about 3.5k and is all GA. Last time I saw her she did two nights in Portland, ME at an outdoor GA venue, for $45 each.

Hope it’s an incredible production, haha.

Now the price is listed as $104.50. What a joke.

Got two tickets for $240 at Radio City. They aren’t great seats. This new normal of first-party price gouging is going to turn my hobby into a luxury in 2023.

    yeah, the Armory is massive.

last time i was there was for Coheed & Mastodon and it was maybe 3/4 full.

for reference, phoebe’s last show here was originally set for the Palace Theater with a 2500 cap, but got moved to Surly’s outdoor venue with a 5k cap. Armory is close to 8k.

Comfortable calling this album an improvement on her debut now. It’s certainly not perfect — “Horses” being five minutes long kinda stops the momentum in its tracks for me and I think the closer could be a lot stronger. (It’s got a lot to live up to, “Back In My Body” is just so good on her debut.) But the performances are super energetic and they went off so well live that I can’t imagine them not becoming staples. Her songwriting went up like four levels and the production choices she made with Kid Harpoon are all really inspired and packed with ear candy… it’s so fun to listen to these songs. She should also win a pop vocal Grammy, I’m not sure I’ve heard an album of singing that so consistently hits me in that sweet spot of emotion and technique since maybe Lemonade.

I've been absolutely in love with this album as of late. I thought it a solid when it came out but didn't revisit it until a couple of weeks ago. Now I think it might be one of my favorites from 2022.
