The $50 total after shipping just isn't sitting well with me for whatever reason. I'm torn cause while I know I'll miss out on these colors, I also promised my spouse to cut back on spending, including vinyl. Will most likely just purchase the black version as budget allows for it.

 

It’s pretty egregious for ANY artist to put an unfinished, untitled, vinyl preorder with no track list. The variants are cool, but that is so lame. This actually bothered me more than the ticket prices. There’s a limited / scarcity mindset to vinyl and it feels gross to ask for money on an unfinished product.

 

No artwork
No tracklist
No run time (determines whether or not it can be a single LP vs double LP)
No release date

It's made up, essentially an NFT right now.

It’s weird, but I don’t think it’s a big deal whatsoever.

 

if it was any other band, i'd probably be like "fine. i'll order it." but with Tom and Blink, knowing the album isn't even finished yet is what's keeping me from jumping in. even if i have to get a plain black vinyl, whatever. i know how this band works... it took them how long to record Untitled until it was released? it took how long for them to get Neighborhoods out? they've got a track record with Tom, so i'm hesitant to fork out $50 for something that doesn't exist yet.

 

I am more interested from a business standpoint, not any question about ethics. I deal with screen printing, which is obviously a whole different animal, but does have some commonalities. It's just business 101 to realize that the per piece cost of an item goes down the more that are produced. So, if I'm selling a t-shirt that is selling like crazy, I'm gonna let it ride and get a huge order all printed at once. It's so much more profitable. If the demand is there, it's kind of insane to stop accepting orders. That is, unless, they literally only have an agreed upon access to a certain amount of material. But, even if that's the case, that possibly limits them to ensuring it's a single lp.

 

There isn’t a single thing from this cycle that’s been reminiscent of the 2009 reunion. Have faith my children. You will get an album in the Spring/Summer.

 

i've been burned too many times by Tom-182. haha. my expectations and excitement is lukewarm at best.

 

There will be less wait between me ordering this record than many other records I ordered this year that were "done."

 

The fact that they shot and released a music video, distributed the song, shot promo, and finalized tour dates, all in the span of three weeks gives me confidence that this era of blink is running a much tighter ship than they have before.

It's blink-182, so yes.

However, I have not invested in Tom's made up thing.

 

I just ordered the pink. I wasn’t going to bother, but this whole thing has been so exciting that I figured I’d regret not purchasing it the second it sold out.

 

To be clear, my hesitation has nothing to do with Tom or release schedules for anything. This band is operating much better than they were during the '09 reunion, and I have complete faith we're getting the album when they say we're getting it.

I just wish $50 vinyl wasn't the norm these days. I had a realization after scanning my entire collection into Discogs recently there's no reason why I should've purchased some of the vinyl I have in the past, or at least paid what I did for some of it. I enjoy the hobby, I'll just no longer buy multiple variants of almost anything (with very rare exception), and trying to keep most purchases in the $30 range now. This has much more to do with changing my own habits and not related to Blink-182 in particular. I had a similar version of this conversation with myself over the Paramore preorder (which i also skipped for the time being).

 

They are signed to one of the biggest record labels and have a gigantic world tour booked that is set to be the most profitable tour (by any artist) in years. Trust me, they're contractually obligated to hand in that album very soon. No way the album isn't out before the US tour starts with vinyl shipping on release date.

 

There is nothing from this reunion that even resembles the 2009 reunion, heck we already got a song from the album. And there have been many album announcements nowadays with much longer rollouts (looking at you underoath and senses fail)

hahaha no deal! i hope the album is out before the tour, and i'm sure it actually will be. but i'm still not counting my chickens before they hatch, haha.
