It's so hard for me to rank their songs so I'm not even going to attempt it. They have songs that fit every mood and experience.

 

Look what came today!

 

once i get my first paycheck this week im gonna go snag a copy. i havent bought a record since notes and i havent listened to anything on my turntable in years but im about to have my setup back up and running.

 

Spent the weekend with this thing and I think it's easily their most accessible album since S/T – and maybe their most accessible overall, in the sense that this is the album I would show people who have never listened to the band, or who have had trouble connecting with prior releases.

Won't bother ranking anything because, tbh, their my favourite band and even their "bad" songs have things I love about them.

Not '75 related but it's good to know other people have cooled on Hyden for a bit. Felt like him and Ian Cohen were the de-facto voices on rock and alternative music for a little while there. They both seem nice enough but Hyden in particular struck me as a weird banner-man. His perspective is pretty unoriginal.

Human Too is Matty's best vocal performance here. The chorus is smoove.

Not sure if it's intentional but it kinda sounds like he's doing an Elvis impression, which makes it that much funnier.

Not specific to you, but more of a general observation that Matty's really developed a lyrical identity over the past few albums. He's always been able to turn a phrase but it's really wild to think this is the same guy who wrote Chocolate or Talk or Undo.

...maybe? That top three, in that order, is pretty set in stone, but it gets kinda blurry after that. The new album is pretty darn good after a couple listens, imo, so I'm sure some of those tracks will eventually get in there.

my grandfather passed away earlier this year and while my grandmother is still alive her health is pretty poor and we know now with how my grandpa deteriorated rather quickly that nothing is guaranteed, shes been talking about just wanting to make it to the end of 2023 lately so i know her time is coming quick. ive always loved the song and considered it easy top 10 material just because of how well the entire thing is put together and performed and how touching it is, but now that i can personally relate to the subject matter its an entirely different beast.

Nana is truly heartbreaking to listen to. Definitely not an easy listen for me anymore

 

I like the call back to “kids don’t want rifles they want supreme” in I like America with the line “a supreme gentleman with a gun in his hand” in looking for somebody.

 

I don’t see that as a callback at all, especially considering what Matty has gone on record to say what Looking for Somebody to Love is about
