And you should definitely check it out! One of the most underrated shows out there, and one of few whose cancellation actually gutted me. Show really helped make many rough days feel okay.

Matty’s lyrics don’t typically bother me. Looking is just one that idk if I can replay. I get it, and the song sounds good, but those lyrics.

I mean, come on. I couldn't love him more

 

That and “you gotta talk about the people baby” and “well I take care of MY kids she said…” are the best deliveries on the record

 

I can't listen to Part Of The Band without thinking of the video reaction by The Darkness' singer that was posted in the thread a while back. He nailed everything that made it so good. It's become one of my favorites out of their entire catalogue since.

One thing that I think has come nicely with maturity is realizing you can have a “big” closer without going huge sonically when you have a baseball-bat-to-the-heart line like “The only time I feel like I might get better is when we are together” to center it around.

I’ve had the Demons 1&2 blu rays in my Amazon Checkout box for a while… also made a sappy thank you post on my IG poll account. Things are getting weird.

 

I won’t say his batting average as a lyricist is 1.000 but he tries for both big emotions/statements and sly/subtle humor and is willing to grapple with the best and worst parts of himself honestly. We need more of that, even if you think it’s hit-or-miss

 

AOTY for me so far. Though, kinda wish it came out late spring/early summer. It gives off that vibe for me

yeah and the lines that do hit are usually borderline genius, real "man i wish i could write that well" kind of stuff. and i also dont think his misses are as bad as people often say they are. it's the lyrics that are just bland and boring i have the biggest problem with from him, and there's not much of that on this record imo.

 

That’s been one of my favorite parts since I first heard it. I love anticipating it in the car and then affecting the voice as I sing along and then laughing at his self awareness. It’s especially funny/interesting in the context of the album as a whole now. The whole thing really feels like a turn of the page in Matty’s life and his approach to it.

For me it's literally just not enjoying Mattys vocal delivery for most of it and I can tell its very much a weird personal thing and that the song itself is actually very good. I love it musically and the ending is fantastic, just can't really get into the verses/chorus vocally anywhere near as much as I usually do.
