i liked one of the reveals and hated the other. idk. just feels like needlessly throwing out the material.

Loved it. I do think it’s funny though how they had to spell out Mordor on the screen last week as if we couldn’t figure that out on our own, but this week we get heavily inferred Gandalf. I am also confident I could kick Sauron’s ass haha

  4. Some striking visuals in this. Glad to see Elrond and Galadriel reunite.

Great finale. Great season of tv. The wait for next season is going to be brutal.

i did think "Gandalf" yelling "I AM GOOD!" to the mystics was very cringe. Just very on the nose unsubtle writing.

I was stoned and i laughed so hard at that part. Very goofy moment in an otherwise very solid season finale.

I know it was in reference to him saying he's bad earlier in the season but yeah came off as a little cheesy lol.

Maybe this is a dumb question, but what did Elrond find in the river at the end there?

It was the scroll that Galadriel had that archivist find which showed that the bloodline of the south landers was broken so Halbrand was lying

It’s fascinating how I am simultaneously baffled by their lore decisions and how much I still love this show

Sounds like not knowing anything beyond the movies is a good thing. Ignorance is bliss, baby.

  13. Don't they say in the opening of fellowship that sauron gifted the elves the rings. I guess you could stretch it and say he gifted the idea of how to make them lol.

Anyway great show hope we don't have to wait like two years for more.

I think that’s why they literally had him say “it’s a gift.”

I think I’ve always just happily separated the worlds in my mind and been fine with having both. I’ve got the world of the books, and then I’ve got the world of the films. They often cross paths quite well. When they don’t, it doesn’t bother me (unless, you know…The Hobbit…), and I think it’s neat to watch them take the Tolkien lore and use it to their advantage to create mystery and intrigue. Hell, Gandalf’s line in Fellowship, “All you have to do is decide what to do with the time that is given to you” can now be traced back to Nori telling him that it’s what you do that defines you; an establishment of the code of ethics he lives by. Made up, yeah, but I like it. Give me more. That thing you’re doing, I like it. Give me more of that.

They could even end up revealing that Nori is an ancestor to Bilbo and Frodo (they certainly cast someone close enough to Elijah Wood that I’d buy it) and I’d be like “yeah okay.” She even had to tell Gandalf (because that’s who he is obviously) she doesn’t know the way, just as Frodo says at the Council of Elrond “I will take the ring. Though…I do not know the way.”

I’m gonna hate waiting for more of this.

everything about the Ishtar reveal was so hamfisted. like 99.8% chance it's gandalf, which is just so dumb. otherwise enjoyed the episode though. the other reveal was just as obvious but done much better imo.

Udûn is the highlight of the season.

I did think a lot of the writing in this show was very cheesy, but i also thought that all the Peter Jackson movies were also incredibly cheesy too so I gave it a pass on that. The visuals and production made up for it.

    Amazing finale.

I absolutely love this show, unabashedly and with no reservations or qualifiers like with most other shows.

After this last episode, I take back anything bad I've ever said about The Harfoots. I got genuinely emotional several times during the Harfoot storyline this last episode.

Also, until The Stranger said the "follow your nose" line, I was really starting to think it was Saruman and not Gandalf. It could just be the actor, but there were a handful of shots where he looked SO MUCH like Christopher Lee's Saruman, only younger.

Super impressed with the Halbrand actor for how he changed it up this episode. Lots of great line readings. It was like he flipped a switch when the words came out, "I have been awake since before the breaking of the first silence. In that time, I have had many names." What a great line. Chills.

Yeah I’ve got a friend who loves the movies but is complaining about this being corny, and i just keep quoting things Sam says in ROTK at him.

I think it’s hard especially when you juxtapose their dialogue with actual Tolkien. I imagine it’s such a difficult thing to emulate.

I watched the nerd of the rings recap and he makes a good point on it still maybe not being Gandalf, it’s kind of cynical and I don’t really agree with it but it attracts an audience and conversation because he’s familiar, and then if they reveal it to be something like one of the blue wizards in S2 it attracts more attention. That’d be pretty annoying though, don’t think they’ll do that.
