Idk whats wrong with me but I just teared up listening to this live version. I just love this band so much. Can't wait to see them live again

This intro is utterly gorgeous

 

I got fucking shivers when the intro built up.

It owes such a debt to LCD Soundsystem but hearing this I’m surprised more artists don’t borrow this conceit - the heavy repetitive piano chords create such beautiful tension to sing on top of

 

And Happiness is perfectly placed here, after that intro.

and holy fuck Looking For Somebody to Love is a whole VIBE

IILWY hits different right after Oh Caroline. This is sincere but there’s a darker twinge to it after a song like that. I like it.

 

Did not dig the last two albums but this is great halfway through so far. Oh Caroline is sooo tasty

this album lyrically / thematically feels like the natural endpoint for everything matty has been getting @ since at least ABIIOR

irony/nihilism as a defense mechanism from being perceived as cringe or getting too vulnerable, everything in the world that comes w being a modern person largely being horrifying, the idea that love will heal us all makes sense and feels very powerful and real coming from him w all the work we've had leading up to this

sincerity definitely is scary but it might be all we have

this was a way too long ramble lol but i just love this band
