China won’t end Zero Covid until Covid is gone…which won’t happen when your best vaccines are sinovac and sinopharm in a country of over 1 billion people.

And China has no game plan for its people decades from now. Remember, Zero Covid is a thing because Xi was wanting to “prove” the CCP’s way is superior and the only reason it is still a thing is because the CCP won’t admit fault.

IF Xi can think of an exit strategy (if he says that China developed a new vaccine that ends all future transmissions and then orders everyone to just stop reporting cases along with threatening anyone who dares say they have Covid) then maybe we’ll see an end.

And you’re right. The citizens are pretty voluntary when it comes to stuff like that, but each week seems to be getting worse and worse in terms of abuse people are receiving from authorities. It’s still effective now because most people I talk to there are still in shock to learn that a lot other countries have eased back, but they’re starting to pick up on what’s happening and far it’s dragging out. Stories like guards walking around Xishuangbanna airport with machine guns and locking everyone in because the city had 61 cases will quickly take whatever patience people have.

It's only been like, 12 hours, and the stress is killing me. We were the first people to see the house (house just went on market at 5 p.m. yesterday) and our realtor asked their realtor to take it off the market since we offered them exactly what they wanted and they said they have 'a bunch' of showings already lined up and are going to see it through (I don't blame em).

    I can't handle this, haha.

it’s so wild hearing peoples experiences with buying homes this past year after our process back in 2017. Just completely different worlds.

When we bought in 2014, our house had been on the market for months and months and we looked at it probably a total of 5 to 6 times before ultimately deciding to buy it.

We've been looking at homes now since 2019 and pretty much every house we have looked at (most of them we didn't want) sold in 3-4 days after multiple bids and went WAY over asking. Our realtor said that most homes now are no longer going for way over asking (although the house we REALLY liked a few months ago went $45K over).

Regardless, this is the first offer we've put on a house since we bought in 2014.

Nervous as fuck right now and prepared to be crushed.

    Not here. Isn't happening. Supporter

I had to go over asking and wave inspection to get my house about a year and a half ago. Hated doing that but it was the only way to compete

we're holding off on buying for another year to save a bit more, i'm really really hoping it's not as bad then as you guys are making it sound

Nice my company just announced that next year's medical is going up slightly but the benefits will be the same. They made sure to mention they are competitive benefits which in comparison to my last two jobs is true but health care is such a joke in this country I'll still never end up using it and will probably go with the cheaper plan

Mortgage rates are so high does buying a house even make sense right now? If you already have a place but have grown out of it... probably don't have much choice. But given the current state of the economy with a recession ahead... holding out for another year or two seems like you're quite possibly better off.

yeah that's where i'm at. really hoping rates fall by this time next year. i can already see housing prices slowly starting to fall down so i'm cautiously optimistic

I think if you can afford it and it feel stable going into an economic downturn you may be better off (as in having a shot at getting a house you like) buying now with less competition and then refinancing when rates lower.

Edit: Spoken as someone who doesn't own a house :(

My wife drove by the house three times this morning, and all three times, there were different cars viewing the house.
