i dont necessarily think a cover has to be better than the original to be a good cover

 

Don't know if this is unpopular, but I imagine the extremity of it is...

Of Monsters and Men is my favorite band with a female lead vocalist.

 

Mine is Flyleaf, even with the change in singers.

 

making that distinction is a bit regressive, no?

 

I mean, it could be I suppose. Though, there is a whole thread dedicated to female artists/fronted bands on the site, so I don't really see it as issue or anything. So I don't know. It's not really meant to start some kind of social justice debate or anything, so if people take issue with it I can just remove the comment.

Late to the party on this one but the only consistently good metal covers of pop songs on Youtube is Leo Morachiolli from Frog Leap Studios. He really puts his own spin on the songs he covers and looks like he's having a whale of a time all the while, unlike those shitty bands who do it "lol-ironic!!!"ally.

^ One of my favorites. That, plus he's an all-around weirdly endearing person. Love his stuff.

 

There's some really great little parts on that EP.

I actually consider The Changing Of Times to be the album of my high school years.

 

On the subject of covers, Camp Cope's version of Maps is spectacular.

 

Probably the most unpopular thing that's ever been posted: I think Jesse Leach is a better singer than Howard Jones and the last 2 Killswitch albums have been their best.

I thought this was the general consensus? I haven't heard any of their stuff since Daylight Dies but I thought everyone wanted Jesse back for quite a while.

 

I thought people held Howard up in higher regard. His stuff is awesome, but upon re listens the two most recent albums with Jesse are awesome and he hits some crazy notes. It hit me when I saw them live recently, he did Arms of Sorrow and other Howard songs soooooo well.

 

If you haven't heard anything since Daylight, listen to Beyond the Flames. His melody in that song is soooo good.
