Very well put. There's some kind of weird alchemical magic going on with that recording that doesn't sound quite like anything else. I've never been able to put my finger on what it is that makes it so special.

It's also one of Richie Cannata's finest moments with that harmonized clarinet (I think?) bit in the outro. Just something in those melodies that hits a place basically no other song can for me.

I was looking ahead to the 80’s last night and it’s ridiculous lol. I think every decade is going to feel insane when you have to pick 10 songs.

I'm trying not to be too precious about it. 2000s are going to be brutal for me, though.

I'm rigidly sticking to that top 250 songs list I posted here and just picking the correct decade ones as they were ranked.

I'm Emotional, I Hug the Block Prestigious

    01. The O’Jays - Brandy
    02. Michael Jackson - Rock With You*
    03. Sex Pistols - Anarchy In The UK
    04. Wilson Pickett - Cole, Cook & Redding
    05. Black Sabbath - Paranoid
    06. Curtis Mayfield - Move On Up
    07. The Who - Baba O’Riley
    08. Sugarhill Gang - Rapper’s Delight**
    09. KISS - Detroit Rock City
    10. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers - American Girl

*I also had 'Blame It On The Boogie' by The Jacksons on my list, but I took it off after adding 'Rock With You'. Although they are technically different artists, 'Blame It On The Boogie' feels too much like a Michael Jackson song for it to not break - in spirit - my one song per artist rule.

**I was gonna go with Funky 4 + 1's 'Rapping And Rocking The House' instead because I am a Hip Hop snob, but then decided that I can't deny that Rapper's Delight is just a way catchier song. It's still great whenever you hear it on the radio. Check out 'Rapping And Rocking The House' though. It has the first recorded verse by a female rapper, if I remember it right.

I did catch that about 2/3 of the way through the song that it was not about a girl and loved it even more.

That and "Shannon" have to be the best of that narrow subgenre.

It does make it even better. I lost a lot of pets in the last few years though so I find it hard to listen to the song at the moment.
