Jade from Oso is a better songwriter than most of the aughts pop-punk/emo staples tbh, and a far more tolerable lyricist to boot. for the most part tho I would agree that most modern takes on those genres do not stack up at all. but I also have drifted away from the genres considerably in general, to the point even the old faves don’t always hit like they used to.

 

If if it doesn’t try to sound like music that could have played on pop radio in 2003 it is not the pop punk I am talking about

 

I’s say the bands in pop-punk or who are pop-punk adjacent who are doing cool things are Origami Angel, Oso Oso, Camp Trash, Worst Party Ever, Anxious, Hot Mulligan, Macseal, Nervus, Pool Kids and Spanish Love Songs.

Generally though, it feels like a genre in a really stagnant period.

 

I missed the convo about dancing/standing but I truly dont get why anyone is at a show to stand still. Saw a post rock show last weekend and most of the crowd seemed like they were standing at attention for some reason. Dance!!! Why else are you here!!!

 

Some people go to a concert to see a concert. It's a weird concept, but it's more common than you'd think.

If you're talking about me, maybe I didn't make myself clear, but my attitude is pretty much "do what makes you happy as long as it doesn't interfere with my happiness."

 

I'm not trying to say if ur at the show standing still you're bad, just that you're wrong and I don't get it. But I do think if people standing or dancing interferes with your happiness at the show...that is on you 100%

 

Granted, it's definitely my own fault for expecting anything else at the Tortoise show

I'll be sitting at le poisson rouge for Domi & JD Beck because it's le poisson rouge. But at an arena or a club or any venue with a GA section even if I'm not in the GA section...I guess so

 

Now I'm just picturing someone randomly standing and dancing in front of seated people, ruining their evenings.

 

I did it at The Who at Fenway park because it was THE WHO. People were sitting watching the band that played one of the loudest concerts ever!

 

Now I'm picturing someone at Phish MSG getting mad at the people in front of them for standing, so glad I'm into music where the fans are good at going to concerts

 

People dancing and enjoying a show ruins evenings?! Huh? If you hate other people’s happiness so much, stay home

 

while we’re at it, let tall people enjoy concerts too, i’m as sorry as you are that you’re 5’8 but that doesn’t mean i shouldn’t get to have fun

 

just let me stand next to you and maybe grab the setlist for me (I’m 5’6)

 

yes thank you! I try not to be directly in anyone’s way but I can only do so much. It’s not my fault I’m 6’3. I’m just built different.

 

I’m sorry for any posts I’ve made against tall people at shows, only said them out of frustration towards the assholes who don’t let me or my sister stand in front of them and block our views all night haha

 

mostly i meant that towards our short kings. i’ve found that it’s also super easy to just move behind girls since they tend to ask if they can see whereas guys get passive aggressive and weird about it lol.
