In my opinion the worst thing about Cody in AEW was how much the snobby fan base rejected him. He didn't deserve that.

Cody needs to be the one to dethrone Roman

 

The nightmare factory feud killed him in AEW. The stuff with QT & Ogogo deserved to be booed. That feud was way too drawn out and pointless. Cody is so much better than that feud and it boggles my mind how they came up with that lame of a feud for him. Easily the worst extended feud AEW has done.

I think Cody's heat with the crowd in AEW was a phenomenon that can't be compared to anything else or pin pointed to one or two specific feuds or events.

 

Yep. And what AEW usually gets right (that Vince WWE never did) was when someone was clearly getting boo'd/heel reactions, they found a way to turn them. And yet somehow Cody kept floating along doing tweener shit and cutting face promos.

Hard not to expect a crowd to turn on that nonsense, same way the crowd turned on Sammy when he started doing dickish things as a face. Like, they did the Sammy/Tay stuff before he even turned heel...

If the Rock is unavailable, sure. But otherwise there's no world where that happens.

What should happen is they should have made the McIntyre/Roman match to split the belts, gotten Drew a belt that he could carry for a little bit, and then drop it to whoever they wanted Cody to beat at WM. Meanwhile Roman/Rock goes for the other belt and its maybe 1% believable the Rock wins

 

i really think it's the most likely outcome here. they were never going to give drew the belt, and he's not really *the guy* anyways. cody is getting it at mania.

 

While fair, Cody did actually lean into the heel stuff quite frequently and there really was a surprising amount of teasing that Cody was turning heel for months. The golden shovel, teasing going down the heel tunnel, beating Sammy...that wild ass promo after beating Malakai which was the kind of promo you'd see a heel KO cut

Dragging it out for 3-4 months with no turn (and then leaving) made it such an odd ending

 

Drew would of gotten the belt if the blood money deal didn't exist, straight up lol.

 

Cody leaned into it because he had no other choice! Cody was putting his heart and soul into super babyface promos and over half the crowd would still boo so he said fuck it.

 

i don't see it. maybe i just don't like drew that much, but i could never see him ending a reign as long as roman's

 

The perfect person to beat Roman is Sami Zayn. He's been a critical part of the story. He's already started the babyface turn. A vicious beating from the Usos at Romans command, kicking him out of the family cements him as a face again...and reuniting with his long time rival and friend KO to re-find his edge. They take the tag belts from the Usos to threaten Roman and show he made the wrong choice, then Sami challenges him for the main belt

I know it wont happen for a LOT of reasons, but, almost nothing could shake up the direction of the companies than having a guy who'd NEVER win the belt under Vince be the guy to do it

 

i love sami and his work as an honorary uce is the best in his career but i don't see him as a world champ

 

Sami would be an incredible champ he already has the crowd eating out of the palm of his hand

 

Put it on KO. I have no idea what is happening in the WWE title scene right now but KO deserves it.

 

anything is possible under triple hunter though, i suppose. if they can bring back johnny gargano and have him shit all over austin theory they can put the strap on sami

 

Oh, that's the next step. KO/Sami drop the belts back to the Usos in early March after a mixup (KO super kicks Sami accidentally, for example)...and there's a hint of dissension heading into WM. Sami beats Roman in the main event, the locker room empties to congratulate him. There he and KO stand on the ramp, fireworks hit, the WWE graphic shows up...then BAM, KO betrays him just like Takeover: R Evolution

And then use the time from the Rumble to Summerslam to build Cody up as the babyface to beat KO

 

Having Sami, KO, Gargano, Balor and Ciampa all among the top stars for the men is the fucking way to go.


Who else am I missing here, Cody too sure, fuck it. Get Ricochet up there too.
