Its just sad. I still plan on watching every week. But basically the only story line they have going right now that I give a shit about is the stuff with MJF

They could be doing so much more. Instead they are showing how hard it is to run a wrestling promotion.

meanwhile is WWE doing any better? I'm basically only following the Sami stuff which I know is killing it, but cause unlike with Fite its hard to actually keep up with weekly WWE episodes idk if there are any other story lines there that are worth a shit

Man, wish MJF/Yuta wasn't going on first, my flight doesnt land til 7:20 and seems likely I'll miss that one...the rest of the Dynamite card is pretty blah (National Scissoring Day aside) after that

 

judgment day is good, white rabbit thing is interesting but i really hope it doesn't end up being bray (i know it will), damage ctrl are running shit on raw, dexter lumis is stalking the miz, bobbo lashley continues to put on clinics for the us title. the bloodline is easily the best thing going in wwe and possibly wrestling as a whole today, but storytelling has improved quite a bit in wwe since haitch took over. i'm not sure it's worth sitting through 3 hours of raw plus 2 hours of smackdown, plus whatever ppv happens to be on that saturday, but you can keep up with highlights and reading the results. that's what i do

I do think it interesting, and I don't necessarily mean this as a criticism to any specific person or even necessarily this forum, but a common complaint I see is that peoples' favourite AEW wrestlers aren't getting championship opportunities/runs, and yet WWE belts have been consolidated with the same handful of people for years. So although I know the real issue is that some of the biggest potential AEW stars haven't had meaningful sustained feuds and stories lately, the "[insert favourite wrestler] should go back to WWE if they're not going to get an AEW belt" message rings pretty hollow for me right now.

 

that's fair. though i think roman holding the title for so long makes it mean a lot more, where as aew's title has been hot potatoed all year, even if it isn't necessarily their fault. midcard titles in wwe also mean a lot more with gunther and lashley putting on great defenses every week. gunther especially is absolutely killing it as ic champ

 

Bray is gonna premiere and there will be a pop. He will cut weird promos and then work matches that will be mediocre if he’s lucky.

My thing with Roman is that the payoff for his long reign should be making a new superstar. However given WWE’s extensive track record of recycling the same 5-6 guys in the title scene, I’m not so confident that will happen. My hope is that maybe Cody comes back and takes it from him but if The Rock is involved with WM I don’t see that happening anytime soon.

I will say I’m intrigued at Survivor Series being War Games and the stretch from the Rumble to Mania should be fun. It’ll be much easier for me to check back in once Blood Money Mania is over. That event itself decreases my interest in WWE greatly.

 

Don't get me wrong, I'm not necessarily opposed to how Roman has been booked. My point is that Miro, Aleister, Andrade, Darby, etc. are no more likely to be showcased with a championship in WWE as they have been in AEW - and most of them likely wouldn't see more TV time than they already get either. And if simply good wrestling matches are enough to defend the use of the midcard (and its titles), I think AEW still have plenty of those every week.

Personally I think most wrestlers can be well booked without a belt anyway, so that's rarely my concern assuming they're still winning matches, looking strong and have compelling stories - the latter of which I think it's a totally reasonable criticism of AEW of late.

 

my head canon has cody coming back at the rumble, winning it, then going over roman at mania. easy way to make him a huge, huge star, and everyone loves the codemeister.

I’d be excited to see a Cody Rumble to Mania title chase. At least in theory I would.
