I know it’s not that but I could definitely use some surprise Tom/Mark blink EP or at least a single at this time of my life haha.
Produced by Rubins bros of course.

Why is it that bands like Weezer can put out 4 albums in one year and Blink has so much red tape in the way of putting out songs? Is it a major label thing or is it the members being highly specific about releases? I don't need the comeback of a lifetime, it would just be cool to hear some new stuff.

IDK, but I will definitely say Blink's releases are much more quality over quantity whereas Weezer is very quanity over quality.

  4. How much of that Weezer stuff is good? They’d honestly benefit by the “quality over quantity” approach. But I think Mark’s his own worst critic so I’m sure there’s tons of unreleased stuff that is great that’s just collecting e-dust on a hard drive.

weezer will pump out 3 albums in a year with a combined total of like 2 1/2 good songs. i'd rather blink do what they're doing instead of just throwing something out there

I am not comparing the quality of music from both bands. It throws me when there is the NINE EP music, the pandemic recordings, and the push from Tom to put more music out spontaneously right before he left. Seems like there is plenty of fleshed-out ideas and no push to let us hear them. I get why they wouldn't have us hear them now, but we could have been jamming a couple of EPs since early 2021. Why so stingy with songs everyone was seemingly really excited about at the time?
I am just antsy for new music. I'd be happy with even an image of the Blink members in the same room writing.

Weezer are an enigma. In 2021 they put out two albums and both were fantastic. Then in 2022 they've put out 3 albums so far with a fourth coming in December, and so far those albums have produced a total of 3 good songs.

I think it’s because Rivers is essentially weezer and can just call the shots while blink is 3 big names with other projects and their own managers etc.

The TL;DR of this is a lot of the times that sort of stuff just has to do with the band members not being on the same page behind the scenes (not even blink, specifically).

This band always seems to have communication issues and not being on the same page as far as the direction they want to take, and I feel like they routinely get stalled out until things just sort of fall off and don't materialize. Sometimes having everyone work together can allow them to pump out multiple albums in a year (RHCP) and other times it allows for too many opinions and things never move forward (311 is basically on a creative hiatus because of this). Other times it just sort of works to let one person call all of the shots (Weezer), but then none of the other band members really get a say in what happens.

It could be as simple as Mark just not thinking the material was good enough to put out, but it does sort of make me wonder what all was going on back in 2021 when Travis and Matt acted like the "new record" was almost done, but then later, Mark said "We haven't even really started." It really could have been that they were in talks with Tom and decided to hold off on releasing anything with Matt at a certain point, but of course that's just me speculating.

What do we think their label situation will be? It was interesting that California was released by BMG and it had so much marketing and promotion, with 3 music videos and a bunch of TV performances. But then Nine came out on the juggernaut label Columbia and we only got 1 music video and hardly any promotion other than a Good Morning America performance 3 months prior to release.
Wondering if Columbia was a one album deal or if they're locked in for another album cycle.

I remember the band saying they switched labels because they felt Columbia would do a better job marketing the band and their sound more too.

The promotion for Nine might have been the worst I’ve ever witnessed.

The biggest promotion of NINE was Feldy’s ig post with caption ,,THIS!I WORKED ON THIS!THIS IS THE BEST DAY EVER!I LOVE MY LIFE!!”

  16. I once heard that Travis believes Ron Perry and John Janick are the only two people in the industry he trusts to break music.

Yeah I would have to imagine that if they had the album ready before their summer tour and had a better lead single than BIOMY (maybe Darkside) the promotion would have been better. By the time the album came out the tour was over and they already dropped IRWIHY as the 2nd single but no one cared. It really sucks that Nine is seemingly a forgotten album since it is so good.

That and ATLs Dirty Work always stick in mind as bad marketing.

Listening to Neighborhoods, it used to be the production really only bugged me on a few songs, but the whole album now just feels like it really lacks punch. Honestly think Even If She Falls is the only song where they got it right. Ghost and Midnight are ok

but would it be forgotten if it was actually good? ;-)

  22. While maybe “forgotten” by the mainstream, I dunno if I’d call it that by fans. At least based on here, Reddit, and streams, it still is talked about and listened to  - at the very least it’s very culty with the diehards.

So has the actual date been guessed in here yet, Jason? Surely you can at least give us that?

I've decided that this info was leaked or spoken about by each member and their management all using different dates as THE date and each statement ended with "good luck."
