This is so interesting because the "your name" part is one of my least favorite moments on the record while the "what if"s in Lost it in the Lights is one of my favorite haha

I guess I'm just not very consistent

  2. I'd say they're doing very different things (one is like emphatic devotion and the other is frantic worry, one repeats the subject while the other repeats the question words) so it would make sense for one to work more than the other but it is funny that they sound that close haha

I’m sure that was difficult to share and I’m glad you felt comfortable sharing it here. This is a powerful record. I had my first solo car listen to “I Don’t Want the World to End” and it hit hard. There is just so much humanity packed into that song.

Glad you found this band, this album, and this site to give you a chance to process something so difficult. Don’t be afraid to share more as you process.

Hopping back on this site to say Cardinals II goes hard. Really want both songs back to back live

Really loving this record, but Low Tide is easily my least favorite.

Wyatt and Low Tide are def my least favorites. Just feel like songs they could write in their sleep

I like Low Tide, but I also have long hair and the entire reason I have for growing it is "who gives a shit" so I can really relate that one

Though I love them all, it's just a matter of how hard those lyrics be hitting when I listen to them.

My least favourite haha can't really say why. I love NCTH, most days I prefer it to TGG, but if I had to cut two songs they'd be Patsy Cline and Hemmingway.

Sorry of this is obvious but Cardinals 2 chorus uses the same riff from Cardinals right?

In addition to all of the other callbacks people have already identified in here (that I have seen anyway) I offer the following:

. "I can never find the key" in the opener makes me think of "I bet that you're still just a bit out of key" from Cigarettes and Saints. In the latter Dan was imagining his friend who had died; now he is thinking about his own death he too is out of key

. "I can barely remember it, 2 or 3 at the time" from Laura and the Beehive reminds me of "I was just 1 and I will never remember it" in Teenage Parents. Obviously being that little bit older, this moment - whilst similarly formative - has had a more direct lasting impact.
