Big Machine, Ain’t That Unusual, Long Way Down, or All Eyes on Me. Hard to narrow down.

Broadway is the best goos song that isn’t Name imo. Saw them a month ago for fun and it was just as much a highlight live, too.

I got to see them touring Gutterflower which, as far as I know, was they last time they were regularly playing anything pre-Dizzy besides “Name”. Got both “Naked” and “Cuz You’re Gone”. Shame they basically just threw aside that whole back catalog

I wouldn’t have a problem putting Yourself or Someone Like You over any goo album. It falls off a bit in the back half but overall it’s just a phenomenal 90s radio rock album.

The thing about Yourself or Someone Like You is it has a couple songs that are nice but really have aged production-wise worse than the Goos or 3eb. I’m thinking of “Argue” and “Girl Like That”, etc. Solid, memorable Melodie’s but nothing to hang your hat on musically or arrangement-wise.

I hate to say it cause I’ll always love the song, but “Real World”, too

For my 2022 ears, their best album is More Than You Think You Are

Thinking about how memorable melodies are apparently nothing to hang your hat on musically and despairing for the future.

More Than You Think You Are is definitely the best Matchbox album. Still can’t get over the fact that there’s a fucking Mick Jagger co-write on that record.

The stumbling block with the Goos for me is that I just cannot deal with Robby's voice. The fact that he gets four songs apiece on Dizzy and Gutterflower singlehandedly takes those albums down a peg from all-timer status to "very good" for me. Let Love In is less good than either of those albums in a lot of ways, but I might play the vinyl more because it's got less Robby.

Soft pop rock from the 2000s is legitimately good. I’m talking talking The Fray, Finger Eleven, Five for Fighting, Howie Day, Train, Lifehouse, Snow Patrol, Edwin McCain, Daniel Powter, The Script, Matt Nathanson, Mat Kearney, James Blunt, etc.

Yeah, I love most of these, haha

As a Finger Eleven fan, I have to somewhat correct you here, as they are not a soft pop-rock band. They definitely became more alternative after "One Thing" took off, but their earlier albums are very nu-metal and they've kept some of that influence in their work even in the current day.
