idk i just hate the chorus so much the rest can't redeem it. it's the only song i "dislike" on here as a song though. I also don't think it fits coming straight after Doors I Painted Shut, I think maybe Cardinals II would fit there better.

There are so many hits and moments on this, I can’t keep up. There’s something for everyone and they just fucking nailed it, again.

yeah man I just can't get over this sequencing. Paris of Nowhere should not be following Cardinal II like god damn that's a jarring change.

First listen I thought the sequencing was damn near perfect

Favorite thing about this record, and what really sets it apart from any of the records before it, is their use of atmospherics throughout a lot of the non-singles. This is first time (imo) they’re using the space in the mix to really create a feeling. cardinals II, Songs About Death, Laura all have really cool things going on in the background that elevate these songs.

The weather has finally changed and this is the perfect soundtrack for the first day of fall. Can’t wait to build some memories to this

We reach for the longest shadow

This seems to do the best at merging the lighthearted bouncy songs/lyrics from their past with the experimentation of SC, but it feels better executed here than on SC. Absolutely zero complaints about production. I am also a HUGE fan of having Matt and Josh doing backup vocals instead of layered Dan like the last couple albums. Forget which song it was, but that bridge with Josh that's super heavy was an album highlight for me.

Okay yeah, so the 3 Yip songs are The Paris of Nowhere, Summer Clothes, and Lost it in the Lights. Kind of weird to sequence his three songs all together in the middle. I'm trying to tell if I can really tell a big production difference... drums maybe a little higher in the mix? That tracks for Yip.

I legit got goosebumps first time I heard Doors I Painted Shut.

As someone who never really got into the first few songs release to an extent I had on previous records, I cannot wait to give this a few more spins. On first listen, it's such a dense and interesting record with some incredible lyricism.

Paris after Cardinals is perfect, so is Wyatt after Doors. No issues with the sequencing here for me.

I HATED this haha. Probably my least favourite part of the album was anytime someone else was singing lol.

I like the chorus on "Wyatt's Song." It's got a bit more pop too it than the average Wonder Years song, which I think favors Dan's voice well. Where he gets grating for me is when the melodies are a little less distinct.

On my second listen and loving it. Easily the fastest a Wonder Years album has pulled me in since TGG.

does the bridge of The Paris of Nowhere seem similar to the bridge of Brakeless to anyone else?

maybe I'm just thinking it because both feature Matt

To me, this is EASILY their best since TGG.

I love everything they have done but the last two have been patchy and inconsistent, with some great moments scattered through. You could combine them into a truly brilliant single album I think.

I think this record feels concise, consistent and purposeful. This feels like the album they have been trying to make for 6/7 years now.

Doors, Wyatt, Youngest Daughter, Cardinals II, Summer Clothes, Song About Death, and Old Friends are my favourites atm.

    forbidden chalice.

First listen going in almost blind and I have mixed feelings which stem completely from the lyrics. There’s tons of lines in this that pull me out of it completely like the “hate myself a little less” one and the “reasons to not exist” therapist line.

They feel very, very surface level coming off of the previous record. Sister Cities was some of Dan’s most powerful writing, esp the opener, closer, Flowers, and Ghosts. Even NCTH had some very deep moments; I think those two aforementioned lines feel very weak after writing a song like Patsy Cline or NCTH. He is outright saying how he feels with the lines I don’t like here, while on previous records wrote about the impact because of it. We Look Like Lightning, Patsy, and NCTH are all dreadful but explain different things besides just stating the fact that he feels like he isn’t enough.

However, a lot of great musical moments in this that I’m excited to relisten to. This might be my favorite opener from them.

Not finished yet, but Wyatt, Paris and Laura (which I'm on now) are my favorites so far. The rest I can take or leave. Laura & the Beehive hits really hard, some of the best lyrics from Dan

I've said it before, but Flowers Where Your Face Should be is the most impressive Wonder Years song. Reverting back to the same old sonic pallet that they used on their earlier stuff for most of this album is disappointing, but you do see glimpses of something deeper on a few of the more pop punk tracks.
