Listened a couple times: this is right behind Sister Cities for me. That was a *perfect* album, and I don't know if this reaches as high as it, but I do think this perfects what they've continued to strive for throughout their career.

Just finished my first listen (first time using my record player in my house, too, a nice way to open it up.) I'm not a particularly outwardly emotional guy, but this band has always brought it out of me. I was both sobbing and uncontrollably giggling about how much I love this band by the last couple of minutes of the closer.

Nothing will ever quite get me the way they always have.

Also glad I stayed away from "Old Friends", cause it's a great 1-2 punch at the end.

Gimme that 7 minute Summer Clothes version!

I still actually adore that song and am glad it was pre-released and came out in the summer. It feels like a pretty big departure from the rest of these songs but still I love it.

Summer Clothes is honestly top 10 or 15 Wonder Years for me. It’s a wonderful song.

Album is great. Laura gutted me.

This album is pretty good. Don't know if I like it more than anything else though. I love all the singles except for Old Friends, that one just does not do it for me. Closer is phenomenal. It'll probably grow more on me as I listen but I'm definitely happy with it, it just isn't really blowing me away. These guys will always make me feel something warm and tingly though, so very, very happy to have new music from them.

I just can't get over the writing here. Dan has always had an incredibly special way with words, but he's taken it to another level. It's crazy that he was lacking so much confidence, given that the writing seems more assured than ever.

The simplicity/magnitude of "You're the Reason..." is magic. The callbacks are poignant but subtle, the chorus is off the charts emotional. Just incredible.

Positive first impressions. It's definitely the best-sounding Wonder Years album in a minute.

By the way, the regular vinyl still comes with a nice, thick lyric booklet. Artwork for this is really neat.

  13. Just one little piece of the mix, but the bass sounds gnarly (in a good way). Whenever I go back to Suburbia and even TGG to a degree, the bass sounds so thin to me.

this seems like pretty clearly their best album. and my prayers for a (slightly) less squashed mix have been answered!

edit: "laura and the beehive" a touch too drippy for me but the rest is all easily among their best work.

Arguably their best closer. I legit teared up in the last chorus when the band explodes and they're doing the three part harmonies during "trying to stay afloattttttttttttt".

I liked Ocean better, but this is every bit as good as And Now I’m Nothing.

Dan has always referenced previous material in his lyrics, but it seems like there is a ton of that on this album. Referencing older material and other songs on the album, even subtly.
Maybe it just feels like a lot because the album is so new and then there's also a song literally called Cardinals II?
    Either way, love it.

  19. there's a lot of it but he makes it work - the subtler ones like 'I built a thousand paper cranes for good luck' tipping Raining in Kyoto are just :ok::ok::ok:

Loooove it. There's some instrumental that is (seemingly/possibly?) shared between songs too that I hear at some points.
