This is the greatest analogy I have ever heard in my entire life. So who does that make Del Paxton? Jim Adkins?

 

I was always under that impression as well - especially hearing that silky bass on "Circulation" - but then I straight up asked Ace if that was Serg and he told me that he did it himself. Mind blowing.

 

that's interesting! I have noticed that his bass lines have gotten really good over the last few releases

 

Ace especially kills the bass on Fame.

They just dropped Five Years and honestly? I prefer the original.

This sounds too polished and Ace’s voice sounds different here IMO

 

i haven’t listened yet but i know with that one in particular there’s a very low chance that i’d like a new version better — it’s been one of my favorite songs for a very long time. i am mostly excited about the prospect of them playing it live

ok that makes sense. i definitely had this song on a physical CD and not just downloaded.

 

feels like a massive downgrade to me personally. Ace just sounds weird to me, like not just the sheen of the production, it almost feels like he’s over-enunciating every single word or something and I just don’t love his timbre compared to the original. I also personally feel like the original breathes a bit more (could be the fact that the new one seems to be bumped up a few BPM) and feels warmer. mostly excited for the songs I don’t know on this release tbh bc both the re-recordings released so far just feel like uncanny valley to me lol.

 

He doesn’t sing the same now; so after years of hearing him sing a song a certain way I think it feels jarring to hear it differently. I don’t really know the original super well outside of a few listens and found this to be a great track, I think we will see that people who don’t know the originals like the re-recording way more.

 

okay and? keeping all this in mind (which I did) is it not totally reasonable that I can think it’s a weaker take on the song? I don’t feel like you needed to explain any of this to me at all.
