Didn’t enjoy this episode as much as the first two. Also don’t remember any villain named Adar. I’m assuming it’s an original villain made up for this show?

almost everything for this show is original to the show given the rights issues

The whole rights things as me confused as to what they can and can’t do. They’ve mentioned and shown events that were in the silmarillion but I also know some things they had to change because the Tolkien estate wouldn’t give them the rights to do so.

i believe they have the rights to the appendixes of silmarillion

The Numenor city design is pure fantasy scenery porn. Gorgeous.

Yup. This show is hitting all of the right notes. Loving it so far. And loving how they’re developing the threat of the Orcs

I don’t know if this anything to do with the rights but in the opening credits it says “based on the Lord of the Rings and it’s appendices” or something like that

Very good episode. They’re pacing this wonderfully.

I don’t think Adar is Sauron. But I am excited to see who he ends up being.

  13. Yes that is the extent of their rights. Everything within the published lotr books (which includes some stuff that's in silmarillion in the main text and appendices). Plus the hobbit but idk how that's useful for what they're doing

But they cannot use stuff exclusively in silmarillion or elsewhere

Yeah no way Adar is Sauron. I’m guessing it will be a rogue elf gone bad or something like that. It looked to be more humanoid in the face compared to the orcs.

I was thinking maybe it’s the man who eventually becomes the Witch King of Angmar. Not sure how they’re gonna handle the nine rings.

Great episode, but I still find the Harfoot storyline to be much less interesting than everything else that's going on by a pretty big margin.

Halbrand kinda sounds like a name from Rohan… maybe breaks off and forms Rohan under Elendil/Isildur’s Gondor and Arnor?

  19. Yeah I’ve seen enough, the harfoots part of this show sucks. Which is too bad because the episode confirmed for me that I’m going to be into this show overall. But it’s too bad because that storyline brings the whole thing down

  20. The Harfoots are good actually.

I definitely don't think the Harfoots parts suck, for me they're just significantly less interesting than every other storyline. If the Harfoots storyline was the whole show I don't think I would watch it, whereas I would watch a show made up of solely any of the other storylines. I'm hoping that storyline gets a lot more interesting when things start to happen and we learn more about The Stranger.

My gripe isn’t that the harfoots parts exist so much as that they’re poorly scripted and heavy on disney style treacle. Idk maybe I’m heartless haha. Anyway I hope my take changes bc they obviously aren’t going anywhere!

Thank god for the feature that lets you see who the actors are on the screen when you pause is so I can figure out which beardy white dude is which

also the harfoots are probably my favorite part

Galadriel is very generic fantasy stuff and its visually cool but idk the story there isn't really capturing me.

Captive Elf and the Orcs are interesting, and then did a good job with the whole Fight for escape and think you've won only to realize there is no escape and it was all in vain storyline was very well done, but its also something that has been done many times before

Yeah I guess the whole isolationist nature of the Harfoots has been done before, but it feels more fresh than anything else (except maybe Elrond/Durin stuff). Plus Poppy and Nori are wonderful together. Honestly give Frodo and Sam a run for their money.

isn’t Angmar a northern kingdom, though? maybe he is given it, but i’m gonna guess he is tempted by one of the nine rings but rejects it and his family’s history with Morgoth.
