Pianos Become The Teeth got COVID. Cancelling the next few shows. Including the one in Nashville I was supposed to go to tomorrow. What a bummer!

Another year of people showing up to Blue Ridge Rock Festival and there not being things available that people paid for, serious lack of bathrooms at the camp sites, and lack of answers.

AGAIN? Didn't they change the whole management after the clusterfuck they had last year?

Edit: Looking at some FB comments, looks like people are saying it is much better than it was last year

They said that but most people said it was just damage control, they are deleting all the comments with any criticism at all, people that paid and show up and their spots aren’t available

It's always hard to tell how popular a band is now. I went to a show last night and there were like 15 people max. it was a great show, and a great band, but they have 900k plays a month on spotify, yet no turn out. How do you get that many continuous plays and then not get people to show up? Does it mean they have a song on a tiktok reel or something that's over inflating their popularity or maybe just piss poor promotion? Either way, it was a cool show like I said (sounded great, super friendly, didn't let the lame crowd diminish their performance) I'm just surprised. I've been to a show with bands that have like 100k plays a month that have sold out a 300-400 cap room easily so I figured this was going to be rocking. (Not naming the band as I'm not trying to call them out or dissuade anyone from maybe going in their city and bailing if they think it's gonna be dead).

I had a similar feeling when I saw A-Wall at So What?! back in May. Has a massively popular song on TikTok and is local to Texas, but had maybe 30 people watching their set on the smallest stage. I was really surprised.

I'm more interested in how streams relate to crowds but it's probably not that deep. 100k streams with die hard fans, vs a million steams based on just getting on the right play lists but nobody really likes them that much I guess? I always used to base the projected show attendance on how popular they were on spotify comparative to the venue size. Like 'oh shit, 500k plays a month? this small ass venue will be packed' kind of thing. Mostly because I go to shows solo and it's awkward obviously standing on your own, and if it's a small crowd, that becomes more obvious so I've not gone to shows before if I thought it was going to be empty. Having said that, I didn't feel at all self conscious last night so it may have helped me just get over that.

The band Loveless has almost 20 million Spotify streams for one of their songs and 10 million for another one and they are playing Cobra Lounge in Chicago which is a tiny venue. Stream numbers mean less than people think they do.

  18. especially because it's so easy to pay for bots to give you plays.

also, a band like The Ataris who has 1,095,062 monthly listeners on Spotify can barely fill a small room anymore.

  21. Weird hill to die on to not name the band, maybe some people would make a point of making it to their show if they knew the tour was struggling?
