New song is so goddamn good. Couldn't be more thrilled to be getting a new record from them.

finally getting into this band after years of neglecting to bc I thought I would never get past Eric’s vocals. turns out I actually get it now. listened thru the first three records last night and All The Nations Airports especially struck me as an incredibly special record that I will return to plenty. I know I have been missing out but also it’s kind of amazing to hear something like this for the first time at almost-30-years-old and it feeling almost like I’m back in high school discovering The Moon and Antarctica again or something. a rare occurrence. very stoked for the new record and also to listen to White Trash Heroes bc I know that it is something of a departure.

I am in fact listening to them again atm, with my partner this time. listened to Icky Mettle and liked it even better the second go around, and on Vee Vee now and also liking it even better. kinda torn which of the two I prefer, and I get the feeling the more I listen thru their discog the more those lines will blur and it’ll be like splitting hairs ranking em.

Yeah Vee-Vee has definitely stuck to me the most for some reason. Not sure why. But that one is stacked with great songs. I could just listen to Harnessed In Slums on repeat for hours. I don’t think I’ll ever bore of that song

listen 2 into All The Nations Airports and I am already ready to declare it a masterwork. it’s unbelievably good haha. the suite of The Worst Defense->Attack of the Killer Bees->Rental Sting is just magnificent stuff. and I welled up all through Chumming the Ocean. and all the instrumentals are so well crafted they’re honestly one of my fav aspects of the record.

chumming the ocean is my favorite by them and strangled by the stereo wire is one of the best openers

def one of my favorites on the album/by the band. the instrumental passage it ends on is so serene.

shouldn’t come as any surprise really but I love White Trash Heroes immediately as well. very cool shift, but nothing terribly drastic imo it def still feels like the same band to me. and there are moments that feel like totally logical progressions from some of what they touched on with ATNA.

I saw the Loaf in LA last night. And wow, what a fantastic show! Setlist was excellent and they sounded so good. Pure joy the entire night.

They interestingly didn’t play a lot of songs from the new album (I think 3 total?) which I thought was weird. I wasn’t necessarily bummed about it since I’m still kinda iffy on the new album, but the songs they played from it sounded great live. Gonna revisit it and give it another chance

this was me last year. all their records are at least good (most very good or great), but All The Nations Airports really still shines to me as one of the best albums of its ilk I have ever heard. they really tapped into something musically there that just makes my heart flutter at every little moment; so much to dig into with the interplay between all the instruments.
