have you tried the Joyo amp modeling pedals? i record exclusively with those. i record ampless since i'm in an apartment building. i'm thinking about maybe making the leap to the Strymon though, if it's different/better.

 

I used the American Sound a bit. I liked it, but didn't love it. For the price, it definitely works and gives you an easy recording. The big thing for me was the headphones, stereo, and the different sounds (Fender, Vox, Marshall) that Strymon offered. I have kids and live in a flat, so being able to sit down at night and play with headphones is so huge for me. Makes time to play so much easier.

 

first new guitar day for me in quite a while. trying to play more again now that i have more time so i figured why not trade my ssh strat i wasnt feeling forever and find a spark w a new axe.

ended grabbing a classic vibe thinline tele w the humbuckers. my first semi hollow so gonna take some getting used to the light weight but the neck is nice and plays easier then many mexican teles ive tried anyway, cool little guitar. best of both worlds between the warmth and twang. like any tele worth its salt it stays in tune like a motherfucker too. gotta learn a bunch of fest-core songs now ha

Anyone have a MXR Dookie Drive pedal? If so, how is it?

 

I have the Dookie Drive v3. It's pretty damn versatile. I can do crunchy stuff with it and really, really gain-y stuff with it. It's got a mid-scoop button if you're into that sort of thing. Pro-tip that wasn't particularly well advertised: there are two more knobs inside the pedal that govern crunch gain and crunch volume. Those really helped with dialing in that Dookie era tone. If you don't have a decent distortion/overdrive pedal yet, it's definitely worth the dive if you can find it at retail price.

 

Awesome to hear. I’m not too very into scooped tones but I feel like that can be compensated for elsewhere. I can’t believe how much they’re going for now!

The MXR FOD sounds pretty good and it has those 3 mid options. But for some reason the Dookie drive seems a little more in your face and I like that.

 

Oh wow. I just checked what they are going for now. That's a bit crazy. You can really dial in some punch with them. Have you ever checked out the MXR Doubleshot? Those can get pretty nasty sounding too, and you can pick a used one up for $60-100. I'm also quite fond of the TC Electronic Dark Matter, which was my go-to before I picked up the Dookie Drive.

 

I just went ahead and purchased the MXR FOD. Per BJA’s Guitar tech it’s the exact same as the Dookie drive, but the FOD has 3 mid options instead of the 2 the DD has. It’s way cheaper too! Also, I mean, it’s called FOD haha.

 

I got a Strymon Deco in a trade and redid my board with it at the end of chain. Really really nice saturation that just warms up everything.

 

It’s my first time playing a professional guitar now, and I am not sure what, to begin with. I have never owned a professional electric guitar before, but now it’s time to learn because my band needs a good guitarist. What kind of Guitar Pick would you suggest using? There are so many types, and I am kind of lost among all of them. I try to choose between acrylic and celluloid ones. Many articles on the Internet are fine, but I need someone to explain to me the pros and cons of every type of pick. What is the best one for a beginner?

 

I began on the red Dunlop tortex .50mm picks. Still use them to this day! I find them a perfect size for what I play. I play everything from punk, blues, to garage rock stuff. I find those picks very responsive to how hard or light you hit the strings.

 

My new whip! My “perfect” strat and promptly named ”The Buster” after Paul Walker’s characters nickname in Fast and Furious lol.

 

My mustang doesn’t stay in tune too well. Some days I wish I had gotten a Strat instead.

Any recommendations on a good overdrive pedal?

What price range on the OD pedal? Lots of good ones out, some for not too much.

Today I discussed the beauty of a strat single coil through a high gain amp. WOW. I get such a rad old school punk/buzzsaw tone out of it.

 

Does anybody here use a helix / hx stomp / pod go? I got an HX stomp and am wondering if anybody has a decent feel for setting up presets or have any that they'd be willing to share. I'm using it for a jam night I host, and honestly just want to get like 2-3 base presets with snapshots for various levels of clean/dirt:

* A marshall sound
* A deluxe reverb / twin reverb sound
* Been tinkering with a mesa boogie sound as well

I feel weirdly lost lol

 

1981/Matt Hoopes released his second pedal today. more of a low-gain drive, compared to the DRV that's more like a RAT. i've had it for a few weeks, grabbing the pre-order, and it's instantly one of my favorite drives.

 

Watched Josh from JHS's video on it today and I'm into it. I've been thinking about grabbing something from EAE, low and behold apparently he was involved with it LVL as well.

Have a friend that makes his own pickups, had him replace the humbuckers with some humbucker sized p90s and replaced the black on black pickguard with the leopard print. I kind love it and sounds way better than those muddy ass stock pickups.
