i don't think it's inappropriate to say that considering the fuckup their PR guy made alongside it and that they only cancelled bc of the blowback lol

I kind of assumed that even if it's real they’d hold it til next year tbh given where they stand PR wise right now

I’m glad they canceled but it did feel kind of hollow and I haven’t listened to them since I think

I mean I’ll be honest, this is still my AOTY and they’re still one of my favorite bands, but I also understand why they lost goodwill with some people and respect anyone who wants to be done with them.

This was my AOTY, I may come back to this band and reevaluate the situation but its left such a bad taste in my mind that I'm just going to omit it for now.

    Rat Tally current AOTY

Mary Remington (eponym of the song "Mary") self-released an album in 2020 that featured Adrianne, James, and Twain. It was taken down over a year ago but it's getting re-released by an actual label in Feb 2023. Preorder here. First single will be out tomorrow

Seeing them in 10 days in Melbourne, can't wait.
My Big Thief Journey started about 4 years ago and they instantly rocketed into one of my favourite current bands.

Looks like they played another brand new one today. They've played over 20 unreleased songs at this point (including solo ones). I really hope we get news of some sort of release within the next few months

Saw them last night, was every bit as good as I had hoped.
Adrienne said her voice was feeling a bit frail so she wanted to keep it more subdued. Still absolutely tore the place apart when needed.

Vampire Empire is such a jam live, wow.

Firs gig in a few years, I am so happy it was them

In a short Japanese interview, they mention wanting to build a recording studio. Can't imagine how much music they'll put out if they actually do it

This is worth a watch if you’ve seen a recent gig, being a few days after my Melbourne gig, it felt spot on.

It added some oomph to my feelings on Vampire Empire

That version of Masterpiece (at 17:33) sung over the first chord of Spud is pretty great. Wish there was a full video of that. Also don't think I've ever heard a NZ accent with Rs like that. Sounds like it's mixed with Irish

This album is doing fairly well on end of year lists

    Rank - Source
    1 - NPR (rock category)
    1 - Paste
    1 - OOR (Netherlands)
    3 - Exclaim!
    4 - Double J
    5 - Uncut
    7 - Consequence of Sound
    7 - Pitchfork (#1 in readers' poll)
    8 - Stereogum
    24 - NME
    24 - The Guardian
    33 - Billboard (staff list)
    35 - Rolling Stone

Simulation Swarm and Spud Infinity have ended up on a few top song lists. However, I haven't seen any lists that include the song that's actually up for a Grammy.

Almost a full year since its release, how does everyone feel this album has aged?
