So I want to plug something here, I do a movie podcast called At Least You Tried. This week, we sit down with Matt Stuertz and talked about his upcoming film, Tonight She Comes, while talking about the filmmaking process behind it and just talking about horror and movies in general. It was fun and I hope you guys dig it. Oh and he'll be premiering the movie at GRIMMFEST in Manchester, UK on October 9th, so go see it if you're around there then.

Fair warning, that episode has bad sound quality as Jonathan hadn't quite figured out how to set up the mic properly so it's recorded on the laptop mic. We have discussed going back and redoing that episode in the future because that was a lot of fun to do and we'd like to get our other Top 5 co-host, Jake, in on it as he's a newbie to the series.

 

In the process of making my room creepy. Thought I'd share.




I have a couple of extremely creepy dolls* coming this week, and a few other oddities...My goal is to make my bedroom feel like Halloween year-round. Heh. Prob. gonna replace the Edison bulb with a small red LED light.

Haha, that's a good question. The doll in the black and white photo actually stands right by the foot of my bed, and for the first couple of nights in my new place I'd wake up in the middle of the night and be too scared to look up just in case she had somehow moved on her own.

 

Watched Tremors last night. This movie will never not be fun.

Thanks to whoever mentioned The Canon podcast. I love listening to it now and have been on a binge of old episodes. Devin is really a jackass, but I love the contrast between him and Amy. It's very entertaining and the discussion from both sides is great.

Sorry to keep posting pictures of my room in the horror movie thread, but I'm very excited about the latest iteration of my spooky wall, and this is the last update I'll post, I promise! Just wish I had put a light behind the bat because you can't really see it in the video.

 

Just came across a gallery of pictures from the make-up artists on Green Room

 

I need to learn sfx makeup and prosthetics. On my bucket list of things to do in life!

 

There was a great documentary that I watched on Netflix (forget the name) but it was all about the KNB EFX Group, which Greg Nicotero (The Walking Dead) was a founding member of. I didn't know he had worked on so many great movies before The Walking Dead.

 

Was that the one with Tom Savini? I think I've watched one with both of them. It's so fascinating. I'm not great at art or engineering so it left me feeling a bit defeated lol, but it would be super fun to learn! My dad is pretty good at sfx stuff on an amateur level so imma hope he passed down that skill.

 

Just looked it up and it was called Nightmare Factory, produced by Epix. No longer on Netflix though. And yea Savini was in it, since he was a mentor for Nicotero. And I'm in the same boat as you. I wish I had a talent for that. And I always preferred practical effects over most CGI.

 

I feel like you gotta have an art background but idk. sfx seems more like you'd need to be good at sculpting or something and the only thing I ever sculpted blew up in the kiln. Oh well! I wanna learn and then volunteer at all the haunted houses ppl put on!!

 

I feel like that'd be such an awesome gig.

 

watching the tales from the crypt movie (1972). wasn't expecting it to be this legitimately good. damn.
