But, yeah, I've known other parents who are super regimented and, no matter how disciplined they are, the kid just doesn't sleep well.

I'm on sleep meds because of my wonderful Pre-menopause Insomnia. Its been working well the last 6 months. I'm usually out cold by 10-10:30 every night.

your newborn could sleep so well the first 3-6 months and the BAM! Sleep regression kicks in and NO one is gonna sleep for the next 6 months. My friend has been dealing with this for a couple of months now with her 1 year old.

Sleep has long been a puzzle for me. Since I was a child, I've consistently woken at least 1-2 times per night. As an adult, I am an even lighter sleeper, and will sometimes go on stretches where I wake close to 10 times per night with no known reason. But then I'll wake up with the alarm and feel just fine and well rested all day. Then I'll have one of those rare nights where I only wake once and sleep 8 hours only to get out of bed tired and moody. I can't find a correlation or a sweet spot for exactly the right conditions and how much I actually need to be a more well adjusted person.

My son was a horrible sleeper the first three years. It was hell. He’s lucky he was a cute baby/toddler during the day because goddamn. Once he had his little sister moved into his room it was a game changer. The first time he told me “now I’m not alone anymore” broke my heart.

If your newborn isn't waking up every few hours to eat that's usually not a good thing and you should probably be waking them up to feed them.

Exactly. We somehow avoided sleep regression, which is why I'm super hesitant to take much credit at all for how she sleeps. It's just pure luck. I have a kid who sleeps well.

Well, yeah, my wife would wake the kid to feed during infancy. I would try to stay awake in solidarity, with mixed success.

One weird thing I've noticed (that I thought would change) after having a kid is that I'm still not really a "kid person." I love my kid more than anything and make the most of our time. But, do I like or want to engage other kids? Not so much. I'm still super awkward around any kid that is not my daughter.

Yeah, we had twins who shared a room and the thing with that is if one kid wakes up, you wake the other one up too. Helps get them on the same rhythm/schedule so they feed and nap at the same times throughout the day and keeps things somewhat normal.

Now they're 6 and one wants to stay up late and sleep late, and the other falls asleep almost as soon as hitting the pillow but then wakes up early.

Our youngest is the worst of both, wants to stay up late but then also wakes up early. He's like me in that way, can get by fine on less sleep than otherwise expected.

Oh man, I bet that's a challenge. My wife and I both have twins in our family, so we were pretty nervous/excited about that possibility.

See, i'm kinda the opposite. I don't have/won't have kids of my own, but I swear the littles just gravitate to me.

I went to my Nieces 7th bday party over the weekend and her mom, my BFF, had set up a craft table for the kids. Guess who joined in with the kids painting bird houses and making key chains with gimp and beads. ME! Every mom has now invited me to their kids future parties, lol.

Yeeeeeep. When we first moved into our house (it’s a tiny little two bedroom in the hopes that one day we’ll be able to afford more but L.O.L.), we had him in the back bedroom and he was very reticent to move from his bedroom at our old apartment to this slightly smaller room at the house. For a while we thought that was what was keeping him up at night. He used to wake up and run through the house at a breakneck pace to our bedroom and would be standing at our bed shaking. When his little sister was finally old enough to move in with him he immediately relaxed and slept through the night. That’s when we realized that the poor kid was just terrified of being alone. When I asked him about it, that’s what he told me and then he also said, “you have mommy and then Olive had you and mommy and I had nobody.”

    Ah fuck.

We went from 0 to 2 kids right away so we didn't really know anything else, and it was great because they always had a buddy and someone to interact / play with.

Ours were conceived via IVF and we - mainly her - had been through so much shit that when we had 2 viable embryos to implant we were fine with the potential "risk" of having twins.

But that's how we had a third kid 2 years later because we didn't think that her getting (and staying) pregnant was possible without scientific intervention . . .

My brother has a friend where he and his wife literally had 3 sets of twins. Haha. During the third ultrasound, there were no words. He simply let out a heavy sigh and buried his face in his hands.
