i never thought it had anything to do with rightoids not wanting to use naughty curse words, i just thought it was an obvious goof at the nascar announcer that caught on with that crowd. a funny haha if you will.

Is Brandon the new "Thanks, Obama"? Personally, I feel Republican humor was firing on all cylinders during the Obama years. Apart from the aforementioned "Thanks, Obama", we got such classics as "Obummer", "Nobama", and "Barry Soetoro". (last sentence to, of course, be read in the voice of Troy McClure)

Thanks Obama was never really a right wing meme. From the inception of the meme, it was always poking fun at the republicans who blamed Obama for everything.

 

Well hell. I should've known. But, come on, you gotta hand it to them for "Nobama"! Classic! I remember I once had a "debate" with someone with that bumper sticker where I somehow completely played it straight and kept acting confused because I felt it implied his last name was Bama.

maybe i'm just an idiot but i've read like 6 articles on it now and i can't figure out why the inflation reduction act is supposed to be good or reduce inflation

 

It's a mixed bag on inflation and calling it that was clearly just a messaging thing the way the GOP does with some of their bills....but there are some deflationary aspects to it, namely the increased tax collection (as taking money out of pockets of consumers tends to lower demand, in theory)/increased taxes on certain things in general, and Medicare drug negotiations should lead to lower prices on those things.

The flip side to these two things is 1. It's hilarious seeing Republicans argue against the tax collection/inflation thing because, in general, conservative economic theory for decades has been "you can't increase taxes, that will hurt economic activity!" aka be deflationary and now they're arguing that doing so won't actually cause a negative impact on economic activity lol, and 2. There is the idea that maybe if Medicare is paying less for drugs that private insurance will end up paying more for it, but not sure how true that is.

One of the biggest things in that bill in my opinion is we finally will get a tax on stock buybacks. Which is something that I know Republicans like Marco Rubio was supportive of back in 2019, though I think he wanted them treated like dividends which is little different than how the Inflation Reduction Act does it.
