I could understand thinking it was goofy if it were like, a fictional approximation of what they thought a wartime love letter sounded like. But I think that goes out the window once you know the story behind it.

That +44 album was one of the 3 or 4 albums I went out and bought after me and my girlfriend of 2 years broke up. I was a wreck and needed some depressing music and I was a causal blink fan at the time, so I knew 1. The latest blink record at the time was supposed to be moody enough for what I wanted, and 2. They had broken up and mark did a solo thing. So I looked up some of the lyrics on the album and I was like Rocket Raccoon saying “oh…yeah” and ran out and bought it lol.

but yeah a perfect mood album and the overall tone of it definitely matched what I was feeling and going through at the time

  8. I actually didn’t care for +44 when it first dropped, took me a few years to come around but when I did, I really started to enjoy it.

My hot take of the day:

+44 and Box Car Racer are equally fantastic and surpass 90 percent of the blink catalog in quality.

Yeah the DED EP is a great +44 song, three decent AVA songs, and a Smashmouth cover

Thank god they were in the same room

Yeah, I feel like throughout that whole stretch, Mark had a tendency to lean on that A Minor chord. Quite a few songs were either in F Major or C Major (Lycanthrope, When Your Heart Stops Beating, Lilian, Weatherman, Hearts All Gone, Dogs Eating Dogs).

There were other commonalities there obviously, but Mark only had like four songs post-reunion where he took the lead and two of those used that same key.

    House of Protect Ron.

Catlike Thief is top-notch. The drum intro, the perfect guitar, and bass parts, Tim Armstrong bringing his best, the vibe. The fact that it is sandwiched between Tiny Voices and And I. Last part "Got my crew comin'" It is j just so good.

Where is that unreleased BCR song Tom and Travis were teasing last year?

I don’t understand why Mark keeps his songs in C, I think Jerry was into that push the vocal just past the comfort zone idea (that I wanna say was pioneered by Dave Jerden?), but I don’t think it suits him these days. Especially in songs where he’s anchoring the melody on the 3rd.

Write in C if thats your creative part of the fretboard, but B is a friend

Or better yet write in F cuz Cynical sounds great

If one were to make a definitive playlist of Angels & Airwaves and +44 which sounds most like a blink 182 album that was never released between self-titled and Neighborhoods - what would that look like? Only songs released during that era between those two blink albums are eligible.

The Adventure is probably the closest we'll ever come to what would've been on that imaginary album.
