And idk I don't think we should jump to sexism because a person thinks one girl's voice is obnoxious. It would be different had he made a generalization and said, soprano range vocals or female singers tend to be obnoxious.

"Obnoxious" is a term a lot of people use to describe powerful sounds they don't want to hear for a long period of time. Any loud voice you don't like can be obnoxious.

I just think they jumped down his throat a little quick there, he was talking about one artists voice not females in general in any way

I'm a girl and don't at all think it's sexist to dislike a musician's voice. I do think it's kind of weird having men in this thread say what I should be offended by though

 

I mean, it's pretty objectively a useless conversation when one side won't even elaborate on what their argument is.

From the context though, I mean it's still definitely possible that most of that guy's favorite artists are female and he typically loves female vocals, so that's why it felt like a knee jerk reaction just to challenge the underlying nature of his views without asking any questions.

I think that we are definitely a pretty socially aware group and it's good to question things and have discussions about things like that, but it should be a discussion before we start condemning people for their preferences haha. It's also counterproductive to attack someone before we have enough information about what they're trying to say. Let's confirm what somebody meant or why they don't like that voice before we assume reasoning.

I just don't know what someone could find especially obnoxious about Courtney Barnett's voice aside from just not liking the sound of Australian accents. There's nothing extra bad or grating about it to me.

 

I like the artists inspired by pinkerton than the album itself.

 

maybe its her accent, which is a whole other problem, because australian accents are the best. my heart melts every time i hear kevin parker speak

I like most of that Postal Service record but some songs sound very very dated

 

im extremely worried about the next vampire weekend release now that rostam isnt in the band anymore. not sure how unpopular this is but i just thought of that.

 

I sort of agree. I loved that album when it came out but it didn't age very well.
