I mentioned this before, but it's such a weird winner to me (and I like the album!). But, I mean, Trouble Will Find Me, Yeezus, Modern Vampires of the City, Southeastern, and others are way more deserving lol.

 

Tell All Your Friends is a substantially weirder one winner. But yes, both never should've come close

 

it’s only weirder bc the competition that year is higher. that album was beloved on the ap days and is still one of the biggest legacy albums of the scene. even though it’s always been, like, a B- at best

 

Surprised TWY won 2013 over...Daft Punk, The National, Waxahatchee, Chance the Rapper, Kanye, Vampire Weekend, My Bloody Valentine, Drake, Deafheaven, Lorde, Arcade Fire, Sky Ferreira, Kurt Vile, etc. although I am aware what website I am posting on so it isn't that surprising.

(TGG is not a *bad* album but just surprised it won over some other big albums of the year)

Also whoa at TAYF winning over...Interpol, Wilco, ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead, The Walkmen, Eminem, The Flaming Lips, Spoon, Sonic Youth, Sleater-Kinney, etc.

To jog everyone’s memory:

2002: tell all your friends wins with 36. songs for the deaf had 27. a rush of blood to the head 18. you should be ashamed.

2013: the wonder years' the greatest generation wins with 23. both the national's trouble will find me and the 1975's s/t were tied with 22. just for more context, yeezus had 20, sunbather had 19 and paramore's s/t had 16. how did we let this happen

Nothing really close to TAYF, unfortunately, but 2013 could have shaken out differently with another vote or two.

 

a pop punk site had two pop punk albums win. y’all voted for bleed american over is this it and yankee hotel foxtrot and acted like it was a good thing this site was the only place that would do that haha. the same logic applies!

 

i’m not sure bleed american is better than tayf. clarity and futures (and chase this light) absolutely. but bleed american is a coin flip. and it blew out much better albums lol

Really like both albums. TGG isn't my favourite TWY record, that would be Suburbia, but I think I still give TWY the edge, just.

Bleed American is at least six billion times better than any Taking Back Sunday record.

 

they’re albums with very similar “legacies” from the same time that beat albums (the ones you mentioned for tayf and the ones i mentioned for bleed american) that would have won anywhere else. this is just a worse matchup bc it’s paired with another album that shouldn’t have won.
