This whole exercise has been so great and has gotten me to listen to a bunch of "how have I never gotten around to listening to this" albums. The bracket threads have been even more interesting, comparing two (usually) massively different albums that anywhere else would never come up in discussion with the other.
That said...I could not make it through either of these records, haha. Generation ended up with my vote from a couple relative highlights (There, There and Screen Door) but dude's voice is just so thin and ragged, it's hard to get through more than a few songs of that. And man, the less said about the TBS album the better

I'd argue first 3 records! Our Love To Admire has a few of their best songs.

I know I heard at least one Interpol song on the radio in the early 2000s, but couldn’t tell you now what it sounded like to save my life

In middle school there was a kid that lived next door who started a fire in his house playing with a lighter and almost burned ours down in the process. He was obsessed with Interpol and no matter how dumb and unfair that is I will never not have that sour association with them lol

Not to harp on voices again, but Interpol is definitely a band I think I would like more if someone else was singing. There is lots I love musically about Turn On The Bright Lights, but I find Paul Banks' voice to be so harsh and off-putting.

I find that's a feature, not a bug, of the post-punk revival genre.

Yeah, it's totally a taste thing, it's just the thing that has always kept that band at arm's length for me.

TAYF is important for it's time but TGG is a better album with better songs.

Not really a Wonder Years fan. I don’t feel super strongly about TAYF but it does feel like a spot on time capsule for everything the genre was at the time

TBS for sure, getting pre VH1 Flava Flav to be their new singer and not know any of the words for the You're so Last Summer video is one of the greatest moments to come out of the scene.

Oh man, not sure I will even place a vote for this matchup. Two albums that are tied to so many memories and moments for me (like many others) but fuck, should that impact who I vote for? Like, I could (and do) have great memories tied to shitty albums / songs so would I vote for those just because of the “scenery” around them??

Also wild that they’re both attached to so many memories of the same person that’s like two different people because of how far apart they were released.

will likely vote for TGG because it’s a better record than TAYF in my opinion and one that I’ve listened to more often, even though TAYF can be and still is fun.

There There, Screen Door, The Bastards..., I Just Want to Sell Out My Funeral, Dismantling Summer, Chaser, Devil in My Bloodstream...I like TAYF, but think it's a =tad overrated and TGG wins in a canter for me.

TBS today (especially live) are pretty awful. But we aren't voting on what they are now. I remember TAYF in 2002 and the magic it captured. It was an album that just stood apart from the rest in the scene.

TGG is good but probably their 3rd best album.

it isn’t mine (i really could not care to rank this band’s albums) but i wouldn’t be surprised if TAYF is a lot of peoples third TBS album

  17. y'all weren't kidding. this is tough to get through.

  18. I think TAYF is the worst of those first four albums but solid and a landmark for a reason. Don't really fuck with anything after New Again, which I think is their best.

  19. And unless this is prerecorded, it's night and day from the above. Sounds like the dude's voice just can't handle it anymore. Kinda sad.

You wouldnt? Id guess the overwhelming majority of TBS fans like TAYF the most by a wide margin. Thats what i've experienced firsthand anyways.

TBS is the type of band that the album you found out about them on is your favorite. For many its TAYF, but a lot more discovered them on WYWTB and Louder Now, and will rank those above TAYF.

I had given up on the band and then Chris twisted my arm to check out Tidal Wave which ended up being a pleasant surprise. WYWB is pretty firmly my favorite though.

Also just saw on Spotify they did a song with Steve Aoki? I love myself enough to not listen but wow

First time listening to The Wonder Years album, and while I can’t say I particularly enjoyed it, I’m always happy to find new songs for my playlist of pop punk’s official 10 cent chord, the bVI:

Votes TAYF. Both are classics, but I agree that TGG is not my favorite wonder years album and definitely not the one I reach for first. Where TAYF is basically the only TBS I still listen to.
