If I remember correctly his first 2 years in Boston were really good and he was fine in 2018 until around September and was barely used in the playoffs because he was so bad. There was a lot of speculation he was tipping pitches and he was changing his stance/delivery to help with it. I believe a story circulated that Eric Gagne called Alex Cora to let him know about the pitch tipping.

 

Haha I was at this game, it rocked. Made it so much better that Kimbrel had such a dramatic hype entrance with strobes on every board in there flashing him name and blaring like crazy train or something only to do that.

 

Think that was also the series that was the first time maybe ever we had a four game sweep of the Cubs at Wrigley?

I’ll be surprised if Roberts goes with Kimbrel in a big spot in the playoffs. He insisted on Kenley being the closer the whole 2020 regular season and then thankfully didn’t go to him when it mattered. Plenty of options over Kimbrel once Treinen and Graterol come back.

To be fair, I’m much more smug about his -2.1 WAR and 61 OPS+ in 500+ PA so far in his career but I get it ;)
