Yeah, I thought the way they introduced was really interesting. Done in a subtle way that was the complete antithesis to what Vince would do. Hell, I bet Vince didn’t even know there was a B in subtle.

But yeah, another interesting show. Quality matches, storylines pushed forward AND made sense. Sure, you can’t win them all and Omos is whatever, but I enjoyed it for the most part. Even been avoiding spoilers throughout the day so I can watch it spoiler free. Honestly can’t remember the last time I did that with WWE (Punks return was the last time I did that with wrestling overall)

 

I just need different camera presentation. please wwe. i beg you to hold a shot during a fight more than 0.25 seconds.

 

Its weird, I didnt notice the shaky cam at all during Summerslam....whereas a random RAW I watched like 2 months ago had it in every match

It seems to just be the ringside/backstage brawls where they go all crazy still.

 

If you're thinking Dunn is soon to be out the door, don't read the latest Fightful Select update.

 

Dunn's role, presumably, is a pretty difficult one to fill? How many people have that level of experience on a live wrestling show? Even if you brought in someone from other sports, I've got to imagine what WWE does is pretty singular? Though, the natural thought would be to promote someone new already at the company into the position if you have good people.

There's something kind of funny to me about the fact that if WWE just got rid of the fast cuts, no one would likely ever bring up Kevin Dunn's name again. Because otherwise, WWE's visual presentation and video packages are probably one of their biggest strengths.

Edit: Well, rather, his name likely would never get brought up if he and his team didn't do shit like this:

 

"We've also been told that WWE doesn't believe they have anyone currently that could replace Dunn, as the likeliest candidate was let go during a prior round of layoffs, and a return isn't likely based on how the exit went down."

Eh, not sure I agree. Its not like producing an NHL or NBA game is particularly easy...yes, they have structure and rules and a flow of play, but, so does a WWE match (its why they send people to NXT, to teach them to work matches for the cameras). And there's plenty of other productions where producing is equally absurd (like, surely doing an Americas Got Talent type show is just as absurd as RAW or SD).

Also remember Dunne gets huge bonuses ($10mil in stock options this year, for example), so, if you're the guy producing Sunday Night Football, odds are there's a big financial bonus to making that kind of move.

I think the biggest detriment to recruiting that type of role was "working for Vince", and now that thats gone I think the WWE role is probably one of the primo possible jobs

 

imo the alleged irreplaceability of Dunne is because of everything he does OTHER than the camera stuff.

I'm pretty sure he's in charge of everything production-wise like the stage and ring setup. I forget who it is but there's a WWE longtimer (Michael Cole?) who's always quoted as saying that it's impressive how they consistently air a live TV show several times a week without any MAJOR technical fuckups and I think a lot of that is credited to Dunne at the exec level because (and I'm trying hard to word this in a way that doesn't sound like I'm a WWE shill) there's really nothing I can think of that does a live traveling production to the level WWE does.

 

Doesn't Dunne also own a bunch of important tapes or whatever? I always see that tossed around when people call for his firing.

well yes it's also baffling that this isn't happening.

Didn't Black and Gold NXT have a Kevin Dunne equivalent? Not Borash but someone else, maybe that's who the Fightful report is talking about

 

This is completely fair, but also an example of how the WWE process is insane because in any other world that is 2-3 roles. You'd literally have a stage manager whose job is to do that part, and then a production coordinator to mange the agents, and then a director who manages the actual TV airings. In the same way Vince somehow was both CEO and head booker and head writer and casting and....so on.

I guess everyone freaking out over WWE involvement a few months ago was a big nothing. They're involvement is just allowing people like Michael Hayes probably to be on it.

 

So how many enablers are going to get off scot-free in this? No way he dips into the company piggy bank this many times for assaulting employees and the people still getting promotions didn't know too. This is all worst-kept-secret material at this point.
