  1. I'm looking for it myself, but if anyone knows of / finds some more granular information about how much of the $80B for the IRS is allocated to specific goals or timelines, please share it here! It would ease my mind a lot to see $x going to organizational modernization.

I mean we could also have our politicians not taking a whole boatload of money from Intuit and actually get rid of that whole process all together and make it really easy for people to do their taxes but why we would do that? Also doesn't help that one party's whole mission since Reagan is how can we make government not work for people so they get cynical and hate it.

Lol at anyone thinking the IRS is actually going to go after big business’s and the wealthy. I don’t trust it one bit. The wealthy never have and never will get cracked down upon. I’ll gladly wait a week or two long to get my tax return over having the IRS snoop on my information. The fear from gig workers and independent contractors like myself is very real.

I mean, I'm not going to get into a debate about at what point a fetus is deemed viable because ultimately it's missing the point. It's about the gravity of the situation and the respect toward what's happening.

I don't know. It doesn't sit well with me, and that doesn't mean I have any less respect toward the girl and her rights, it just means that I prefer a potential something not be called a "thing". I don't think I'm wrong for thinking that. I'm all for the right to an abortion, but that doesn't mean the potential life has to be treated like an object at best or a tumor at worst.

It's concerning, to be sure. I'm a little conflicted because I would not want Facebook to readily divulge information that would say, lead to convictions of people trying to get an abortion that they would normally be able to before all this nonsense happened. I don't want people's private data leading to that kind of witch hunt.

At the same time, if Facebook turning over data leads to an actual crime being addressed, or even better, stopped, then I would want and even expect that data to be surrendered. It's a really tough nut, because you can't trust power won't be abused. If something can do damage, it will.

Why peanut butter cups? I love PB cups, don't get me wrong, but they don't belong in a sandwich. I mean, that sandwich sounds fucking delicious otherwise.

I'm feeling antagonized here, and I think I'm being fairly level-headed about the conversation. I'm trying to stress that I agree with the right to an abortion and I sympathize with those being oppressed here, so I don't understand why this is being made the narrative for what I'm trying to say.

I know this is a sensitive subject for a lot of people, and yes, as a guy, I don't know and will never know what it's like to be pregnant. Doesn't change the fact that something that was said rubbed me the wrong way and I don't think I should feel bad about it or be made to feel bad about it.

Could the girl have been hysterical when she called it that "thing"? Maybe, and I don't know that. But she could also have been calm and collected, in which case, calling it that "thing" is a dehumanizing choice of words. I'm bothered by that, sorry.

Also, this is a very small tree we're debating here in the middle of the woods.

What? Why? How does Point A go to Point B? If I agree with the girl's right to an abortion, but don't like to hear an unborn fetus called a dehumanizing term, why does that mean I respect the girl's rights less? That makes zero sense to me. Help me make it make sense.

  22. inb4 this thread’s laughable capacity for pointless dickishness about anything resembling a complicated emotion leads to pulling “hysterical” from Penlab’s post as evidence of a broken misogynist perspective instead of a regrettable choice of words that obviously meant “in crisis.”

At the risk of treading into even more hostile waters, you bring up something that I'd like to say, and it's that I really hate our capacity for taking a perfectly good word from the English language and rendering it so full of loaded emotion that it can no longer be used, even in the right way.

  24. The etymology of hysteria makes it one that I would personally say merits being tossed from use, but I find that I rarely have a consistent framework for it.

Tangentially, I do think anger over word choice is a performance much more often than not. It doesn’t take much effort to approach poor diction with an ounce of respect for the person.

"you said something that made a fetus sound like something more than just an object and therefore that means you don't really respect women" is quite a take. Not a good one but it's a take
