I took Kim’s Florida life differently, it felt like a kind of hell. While she didn’t seem miserable, she also didn’t seem to be herself. Almost ironed out, devoid of life and color (ha).

When she realized Jimmy was calling her, she seemed to express every single emotion. Fear, guilt, anxiety, but also excitement, curiosity, maybe even some measure of love (if not for who he is then for who he was). She came alive. But in doing so she could no longer live with herself, which is why she returned to try to set things straight the best she could.

On an unrelated note, if we get one more scene of Chuck before this all ends I’m going to ugly cry

It’s really starting to hit me that after next week, that’s it. At least when breaking bad ended, we knew that a prequel was in the works. But we have more or less had the same “cinematic universe“ going for damn near 15 years and it’s finally coming to an end. It’s going to be weird without this in my life.

Yeah, she was more or less on autopilot, just zoned out and shut down. It was like she was trying to stay emotionless to continue dealing with everything and probably assumed Jimmy was equally, if not MORE, miserable.

When she heard him on the phone, he was the same old person without even a hint of regret in his voice. I think that made her realize that justice needed to be served because Jimmy still hadn’t come to terms with anything nor had he gotten what he deserved.

Man I wish I liked this one as much as you guys. Probably my least favorite of the season - easily worse than the Nippy episode people keep complaining about. Serial killer Gene got some laughs, though

  8. Great ep. The scene with Saul and Kim signing the paperwork was heartbreaking.

"Alright well.. have a nice life, Kim." just felt so tragic.

So, last night, I laid awake in bed wondering how Kim knew it was going to be Jimmy on the phone, when she was told a Viktor was calling for her. I was sure that there had to have been some callback throughout the series where that name was used, but I couldn't think of it. Well, this morning it was talked about in the New York Times review.

    Brilliant.

    • Saul/Gene uses the name Viktor St. Clair as a pseudonym when he calls Kim, which she appears to recognize immediately. Sound familiar? It’s the name he used (“Viktor, with a K”) when he and Kim ran their first con together, on the foul-mouthed stockbroker Ken, back in the Season 2 premiere (with help from a spiky-topped bottle of Zafiro Añejo).

    That’s an incredible callback.

I was also thinking last night while I lay in bed how brilliant it was that the show started off with Jimmy taking advantage of senior citizens to get what he wanted and so who better to finally take him down than a senior fucking citizen.

Also, for those that missed Talking Saul last night, Vince Gilligan admitted last night there was almost no Lalo. He said he had to be talked into adding Lalo because the writing staff was so convinced the show needed him because Saul mentions a Lalo in BB. Vince even said he told his writers: 'My God guys, we don't need to dot every i" and then said he was thankful he was wrong.

Never would have guessed this would be how the final season played out. Truly masterful television. I think this last batch of episodes will be studied for years

There’s just so much attention to detail. Another thought ran through my head a moment ago that Marion takes him down through two means. 1.) The laptop Jeff bought her using the money Jimmy got him through their con job, and 2.) the internet that Jimmy himself taught her to use. Where once he showed her how to look up cat videos on YouTube, she’s now using that same tool to dig up videos of his past. He is always the architect of his own self destruction.

The plane type that crashes in BB? You guessed it.... a 737.

So a few small nagging things (overall thought it was an impactful episode and definitely see the end in sight, though what that end is, especially after the teaser is hard to see).

    - I felt a few moments bordered too much on the satirical and took me out of it. It's had it's comedy moments, but it almost felt like a skit with the conversations Kim was having with her husband(?) and friends. A bit too hammy I guess...
    - I go back and forth on this point, and I'll probably disagree with myself in 10 minutes, but the pacing has been a little weird with leaving all the Gene stuff till after most of the other arcs are tied. It's been a lot as in these last episodes, they've had to create the drama to solve whereas most shows that approach the end of their run aren't introducing new stakes this late. It's a gamble that's mostly worked though like I said, I waffle on this point.

    hmmm

I'm somewhere in between. There were bits I thought were really good and bits that were too on the nose. Weird episode where I felt really invested in some parts and really cold to others.

I'm glad Kim confessed. That's a really good bit of character work, especially the humbly contrite way in which she did it. And the breakdown on the bus was uncomfortable to watch but amazingly well done.
