Pretty cool that the climate will continue to be destroyed because the second-in-line for President wanted some soup dumplings.

“Now, M. President, if the CEO of Exxon Mobil, a company that has done as much as any to destroy this planet, is “pleased” with this bill then I think all of us should have some very deep concerns about what is in this legislation.

Further, under this bill, up to 2 million acres of public lands must be offered up for sale each and every year to the oil and gas industry before leases can move forward for any renewable energy development on public lands.

In total, this bill will offer the fossil fuel industry up to 700 million acres of public lands and waters to oil and gas drilling over the next decade – far more than the oil and gas industry could possibly use.”

how can this still even be considered!? If you think the methane releases from this alone won’t put a serious dent in those emissions reductions calculations you haven’t been following this industry

I would call him the 21st century Carter but only in the fact that meek half measures to address glaring concerns and alarm bells ringing will lead to galvanization on the right and apathy on the left which will in turn lead us into getting ratfucked by the hard right for the next decade. Can't wait.

Not intended to shit on Carter, just a semi-apt comparison in my mind, but probably faulty.

Not defending that obviously it’s bad. But how much of that land that is “offered” to the fossil fuel industry will actually end up being taken up by them? With all the money and resources the bill lends for clean energy, and the direction the market is already leaning into toward clean and renewable, I’d have to think we wouldn’t see any significant increase in production from that land offered up for sale. And how much land is that compared to what the current policy is?

Not arguing, genuinely asking these things because I don’t know the answers

biden's inability to do.....anything when faced with so many fucking problems (ukraine, inflation, the fucking pandemic and the mass unhousing that has resulted from the unprecedented loss of jobs and rising housing costs, etc. etc. etc.!!!!!!!!) puts him pretty damn low in my opinion. maybe not as outwardly bad as presidents who did truly evil shit but still pretty fucking terrible and as someone pointed out is going to result in apathy on the left and a galvanization on the right that will have has fucked for decades
