  4. I still don't think we'll get the schedule too much earlier than usual. The 17th is the earliest I'd even start hoping for it, but I'd love to be wrong. Aftershows have to be this week or next Wednesday, right?

We're still very much within the expected range of dates for aftershow announcements:

    2021: June 24th
    2019: August 8th
    2018: September 7th
    2017: August 15th
    2016: August 16th
    2015: August 13th

Next week could definitely happen, but the week after would technically work too. But since they've been talking about how they're ahead of schedule with everything...

I'm putting my money on next week. Waiting until end of the week the week of the 15th would feel a bit late for me.

According to their website history here is when the schedules were released in the past…

    2021 - 09/10
    2019 - 08/29
    2018 - 09/11
    2017 - 09/06
    2016 - 08/30
    2015 - 08/19

So I see the schedule probably coming out around the last week of August.

    I'm taking a random guess that it'll be 8/10

Well the schedule always comes out after the aftershows. So I’m going to say aftershows next week and schedule a couple of weeks after that.

Really wish they release schedule first and aftershows afterwards. Its easier to choose them if you have your schedule planned

For me this year, I think the only day I can ever consider an aftershow is Sunday - unless the line-up is truly ridiculous. I've never seen the Misfits and it's been 15+ years since I've seen MCR. So it would take a lot for me to leave early...

Sunday is a lot lighter, though. I don't really care about NIN and I'd be okay seeing only a half-set from anybody at the top for that day except Jimmy Eat World. So I'm hoping for something cool that day!

I just really hope they don't do what they did last year with that Bayside/Senses Fail show and have one that starts at like, 9pm. That would have been fun to attend but there was still so much I wanted to see going on at at that time.

I'm scared for potential Nine Inch Nails / Yeah Yeah Yeahs / Ice Cube / The Academy Is / Jimmy Eat World / The Maine conflicts

At my age, its less about missing out on stuff at the Fest itself and more about stamina. Last year I bought tickets to three aftershows and went to....none of them because I was too fucking exhausted. Chalk it up to age, getting too excited after Covid, and hubris. At this point, its gotta be like a goddamn amazing show for me to pull the trigger. Father time is undefeated.

hear that! i can do 2 if they are truly great but i pretty much only have 1 aftershow in me. last year i had a ticket for thursday's show and 1 for mr. bungle, and i was secretly ok with mr. bungle getting canceled if only for getting a fe more hours of sleep, cuz if it was happening i know i would have dragged myself to it, probably still loved it, but in a delirium induced way, haha

I think I've only ever stood until the end for two after shows. I always wind up getting too tired about halfway through the headliner. Hah. But it's still super fun!

So I hear everyone. It's going to take a stellar line-up and venue situation for me to force myself out there.

EDIT: Also? Curious to see if Riot ramps up the @ing today on Twitter. They responded to two questions about the schedule and aftershows yesterday. Could it be a ramp up? Probably not, but one can hope!

Motion City Soundtrack's "final show" went until like 3 in the morning after the Sunday of Riot. It's amazing how you can find the energy when you really want to lol

On the other hand I went to TBS at Bottom Lounge on Sunday one year and I slept sitting up against the back wall (not sure why I didn't just leave lol)

We've only done 1 after show (Bayside/NFG in 2016?) and only stayed for Bayside's set. We've had tickets to Bayside's last year and Aaron West in 2019. Didn't do either of them because both were on Sunday and I thought I might just pass away if I attempted either, lol.
I love the idea of an after show but actually having the energy to go is a whole other thing.

  17. I've done two aftershows since 2013 - Thursday and Mineral, both at Double Door, both incredible. In both cases I left the fest early and took a nap before the show.

I'm excited to see what they end up booking this year, but between age and wanting to be a little more covid-conscious about indoor shows around that time with a big vacation coming up, it would take something really cool (like, TWY or Jimmy Eat World at Cobra Lounge cool) to get me out to one.

For me, it's usually a combination of loving the headliner and the openers being really solid. And acknowledging that there's a strong chance I'll wind up bailing halfway through the headliner unless it feels like a very special show. Hah.

The one I have the fondest memory of is definitely the Bouncing Souls and Sincere Engineer at Cobra Lounge in 2018. I hadn't seen Sincere Engineer before (so that was cool) and the Souls' set was super fun and had a different vibe than the festival set. Lots of fan requests, manic energy, and sillier stage banter/crowd interaction.

    Give what you can.

After another look at the line up- I think the only possible after shows that would get me to drag my old tired bones to another venue after a day at rf would be...

Rocket from the Crypt at Cobra Lounge
Jimmy Eat World / Get Up Kids at any venue. Preferably somewhere super small but I feel like if this did happen it'd be at Concord.

I'm already seeing Spiritualized at the Vic on the Thursday night before Riot, so it's already gonna be a monster of a long weekend. My back already hurts just thinking about it, but I still can't wait.

  21. Hadn't thought about them doing one together, but that would rule. My realistic speculation would have been JEW/Charly Bliss at Bottom Lounge, but JEW/TGUK/CB at Concord makes a ton of sense.

I had tickets to Motion City, PPPP and Bayside last year - two of which are quite literally right around the corner from me - and I just couldn't do it. It was less that I was tired (I was) and more than my legs literally couldn't function.

Jimmy Eat World anywhere might actually get me out. Particularly if its with Charly Bliss and at a smaller venue.

Totally slipped my mind that CB is playing shows with them around Riot. Definitely would be cool to have them as an addition if JEW does end up doing an after show.

I just can’t stay up for aftershows on a regular day, let alone after a full festival day.

I had P4K and Lolla aftershow tix last year without going to either festival, and I sold them both lol
