Allthingsweezer is the most unhinged fan forum I've ever seen

 

The 1975’s Reddit is unreadable.

 

Yeah it’s not necessarily unique to Blink-182 it’s probably just one of the only examples a majority of us are exposed to regularly

 

They’re going double or nothing. Actually, if you just keep saying “I have a source that says news is coming soon” for long enough, you’re bound to be right eventually. You might be wrong 99 times in a row, but as long as you’re right once, you can hand out a nice “I told you so”.

 

I mean, I dunno. I know fanbases can be obsessive, certainly pop fanbases for sure. And while I don't know anything about Weezer fan-forums, I'm sure they're just as creepily obsessive about Rivers as anything.

But with Blink it's just so odd to me how high in regard Tom is held to the point where people think he's gonna come riding in on a stallion and return the band to some long lost illusory glory.

Like, no one thinks Matt Sharp is gonna come out of nowhere and rejoin Weezer, do they?

...Do they?

 

If you think this is bad, this is mild compared to the (literally) WEEKLY theories on social media regarding Taylor Swift. It’s so crazy that her subreddit had to make its own dedicated “Theories” portion on the page, and it’s literal insanity. So much math. And literally nothing happens, or it’s a merch drop. Just like today with Blink. Haha.

 

Checked with some tour peeps I know. If there’s a tour in the works, it ain’t in the systems yet. Would make any announcement this week pretty much a pipe dream imo. I’ve heard a rumored opener. My bet is any announcement on any of those plans are still a ways away.

 

I don't know why that's so hard to believe. Tom was the frontman of the band for 20 years, 10 of those years they were literally one of the biggest acts in the world. They hold Tom in high regard because that's how they remember and love Blink 182. That's like faulting someone for wanting Sam Hagar out of Van Halen and David Lee Roth back.

 

I also find it hard to believe they would announce a Summer 2023 tour 12 months in advance.

 

Don't misunderstand me, I'm not getting on anyone for wanting him back. It's the level of intensity that scares me, where everything is a clue. Except it's not. It's like, dial back the mystery machine, Scooby Doo.

 

Oh for sure. Especially since Tom has been posting random Blink nostalgia pictures for the last 5 years. I don't know how all these mid-30s fans have so much time on their hands to speculate this much lol

 

You shouldn’t have used Matt Sharp as the comparison.

Until Tom does come back there will always be fans who are clamoring for it and coming up with theories as to why and how it could happen.

 

That would make me trust him even more

 

BN’s Reddit is pretty funny in that way. There’s always a new theory of them returning popping up in that thread.

I don’t think Matt Sharp’s held in that same high regard by the deep weezer fans these days. Maybe among casual fans to an extent, but i think the history has kinda course corrected on his perceived influence on the band.

Plus he seems like a fuckin asshole

 

He was only in Weezer for the first two records and four years if I’m not mistaken? Tom was in blink for a combined 20 years and sings/co-wrote on 7 of their albums.

Matt Sharp & Scott Raynor are more comparable if you ask me.

 

Yeah, agree. Sharp wasn't a co-frontman and had virtually no songwriting credits during his time in the band. Shriner has been in Weezer for 20 years (god, where does time go?)

 

I think you guys are thinking way too hard about my example.

I only mentioned Matt Sharp because Weezer was already brought up as an example of a band with an equally obsessive fanbase.

We don't need to dissect how important or unimportant he was for you to get the point that I was making.
