People need to stop using banks and use credit unions. I have zero idea why people use big banks outside credit cards or a mortgage, even then you can do both of those things at credit unions (though typically with less perks/offers).

Yeah for us it's the unbeatable convenience of having our main credit card and checking/savings at the same place. We don't keep too much in those bank accounts anyway though, so I've never been too worried.

That said, we got the best mortgage from a credit union, far and away.

 

Understand the branch portion but that said most credit unions are apart of a co-op network that lets you use other credit union ATM's without any fees and some even allow you to go into other credit union branches and do normal banking through them. I think it's something like 30k of these ATM's and like 6k of the branches. I used to work for a credit union in college so I have some familiarity with it.

 

i got my car loan through ge credit union and it wasn't so bad. i'll look into getting deposit accounts there now though

 

Never had a credit union. Someone explain them to me like the dumbass 33 year old I am.

 

I had a credit union when I started college, then switched to Chase for reasons I can't really remember. Recently switched to Atmos Financial because Chase uhhh... loves fossil fuels as it turns out, and Atmos exclusively invest in renewable energy projects and has pretty competitive savings rates.

 

This is a pretty good breakdown of them. That said most credit unions have apps and technology now, like I can mobile deposit checks with my credit union on their app.

 

Credit Unions either don't want to criminalize being poor or want to do it less, Chase and Wells Fargo are legit evil
