Also, about half the songs are pretty rockin', yet I always think that it's like, fully downtempo, and it's not.

Another Omar record worth checking out is Xenophanes if anyone wants to dive a bit deeper. Musically, it's VERY Mars Volta except for the one key factor that Omar is the singer on the album. Juan, Marcel and Pridgen round out the lineup so it really is Bedlam/Octahedron era TMV if Omar sang. Pridgen famously said that he thought he was recording a TMV album when working on these songs.

Love these little writeups. Xenophanes would have been a great Volta record imo

These write-ups are making me want to check out more of Omar’s stuff for sure!

Also, I forget if it’s been mentioned, but a third single “Vigil” drops on Friday.

haha thanks. Yeah Xenophanes has some killer music but I just never really can get too into Omar vocally unfortunately. These tracks with Cedric though? Woulda been crazy. It's also just crazy to think back to this time period and how much content Omar was creating, with so much of it being great.

Definitely worth it and hopefully posting in here helps guide to which ones to start with if you get the bug, certainly can't hurt to kill time before the new album is out

  9. I did a full solo Omar discography binge recently, and regret not doing it later because I haven't kept track of which songs were my favorites and which albums they were from. Going back to find out would take me a while.

Vigil has this 70s upbeat soft rock vibe to it. Sounds like Zavalaz. Love it

Also where can I get any Zavalaz stuff that exists, I never have looked for live sets or whatever

Kinda jarring hearing them sound so chill & accessible but it’s a good tune

Think I’ll pass on this single and wait for the full album at this point.
