I like this album but what is the coincidence that these two songs come out the same week?

Yeah this is the most I’ve enjoyed a Dawes release in a while. Good stuff.

This blew me away. Great example of why it’s so bizarre that Griffin isn’t more highly regarded in the drum community. He’s a monster

His work on "Ghost in the Machine" is super impressive to me, as someone who knows very little about drumming.

Really keeps the train on the track. He pushes it just enough to feel a little frantic but he’s so tight that it’s still completely stable

They never miss. This is such a cool twist on their sound. The suite-like songs are all cool as fuck and the moments of George Benson-y lite jazz make me smile from ear to ear.

Gonna be listening to this for a long time. Finally set my record player up from my move and imma blast that noise!

  8. I've always been a casual fan at best of this band but this one rips, big fan. But good lord this might be the worst album title ever lol

lol it really is the worst part of the album, that i can’t pretend to really care at all about album/song titles

It is such a wildly dumb title. And it has, like, no bearing on the actual album.

I sort've assumed it was a concept album but haven't dug into the lyrics enough to see if that bears out.

Wylie just played his last show with the band. Don't think they've announced a replacement yet.

Sweet. I haven't used substack before but I don't see a "founding member tier" on there...just a request to subscribe that is now pending...am I doing that right?

Update: I got an email accepting my subscription and giving me an option for different paid tiers. Looks like the "founding member tier" is $75.

Will for sure get the vinyl, and as much as I love dawes I don’t know if I would ever do a paid subscription to anything music related

Damn, I'm already glad I signed up for the Substack. Love this thing Taylor wrote about "Something in Common," one of my favorite Dawes songs.

I, too, am a sucker for choruses where the lyrics change from one refrain to the next.

It’s nice to know the genesis of his writing style. I’ve sometimes found it a little predictable, but it’s fun to read a Dawes song title and kind of guess how he’s going to get there.

Something in Common and To Be Completely Honest are two that do what he’s saying really well.
